Screen Two was techncially a programme itself with the one-off dramas being different "episodes" if you want to think of it that way. So it's not an ident, more of an opening title.

Um, I'm confused. Why does it say copyright Thames Television PLC 1989 and then paint the impression its an indie production (I'm assuming that's "Creative Action Pure Strength" is, unless its something do with whatever that programme was bout) and then the final endcap suggests its an dual ITV programme?

I presume that's just the way the copyright worked, things did sometimes get quite confusing pre-1998 when indie shows had to be commissioned through franchisees. Sometimes they were copyrighted to the indie, sometimes the franchisee, sometimes both, and in this case clearly to only one of the two franchisees it was commissioned through. I guess it was down to whatever the agreement between the indie and the franchisee was.
Also varied as to whether the final endcap for the franchisee on indie shows said a production, programme or presentation for IT\*. Most of the time it was "programme", but the others appeared sometimes, the ITV Chart Show probably the most notable to use the latter (at least post-1993... until 1993 there unusually wasn't an ITV endcap, though the BFI's listings for pre-1993 episodes suggest it was commissioned via Granada until then, then moved to Yorkshire who put their endcap on).

The Third match in 1989 was held in Sitrling, Scotland, so I guess that's where Grampian came in; but the Thames, "Creative Action", and the network symbol? Not sure.

That endcap is definitely non-standard. Shouldn't it have the skyline and saltire logos and say A Thames Television and Grampian Television Programme For IT\=?

I have two theories.
First theory is I suspect that was meant to be the end board style for productions that involved multiple franchises as designed by the design company, it clearly didn’t last though as I imagine itv companies weren’t too happy with their name relegated to the bottom with a generic itv logo.
The second theory could simply be it was an adhoc effort by Thames as there is something about it that says it came from Thames in the early days of this itv era, but without seeing the Grampian programme, this theory can’t be proved.

I've just found the 1996 LWT endcap with the copyright notice reading "(C) Inside Edge Productions Ltd 1997" which appears below the 1989 ITV logo and taken from Torvill and Dean: Making New Magic.

The 1996 LWT endcap with the 1989 ITV logo was introduced on 30th August 1996 on the same day as LWT's new look.
