What an absolute mess of a studio.

Wow stuff everywhere. It's not visually neat is it like the Global studios, is it not meant to be shown?

Presuming that's the 3 studio cameras in the large black domes, it looks like most of that detritus is conveniently out of the field of view, just. It all seems a bit out of easy access for self op as well, with the comms phones seemingly wrapped around the monitor supports. Is there anyone still doing single staff shows at Radio 2, or are all producers expected to be hands on?

I suppose unlike Global where the radio studios are TV studios, the BBC have actual TV studios in the same building so it's less important

I imagine that's the same with Global... you never see what they actually have in front of them, it's just framed well

Global radio studios are very clinical and dressed for TV. BBC radio studios looks like traditional Radio studios with cameras shoved in. I think somewhere in between is best.

By comparison, this has already been posted in the Hits Radio thread – Radio Wave's new studio in Swansea...

It's also a proper radio studio, not a TV studio, but is tidier, cleaner looking, wires have mostly been hidden, and it feels like a bit of design has gone into it. Radio 2's looks like a temporary setup for an RSL or an outside broadcast.

Yeah that does look better. But Radio 2 have only just moved in and they will still be fine tuning it.

The Radio 2 studio will also need to be a lot more flexible than The Wave's one. They're only making a single double headed, all computer playback, show per day in the space. Radio 2's needs studios that can handle anything from a single DJ playing tracks off a computer, through to handling multiple guests doing current affairs programming and full on live mixed DJ sets. It's that variation of content and the required flexibility which means it becomes very difficult to set things up in a single neat and tidy manner.

And yet they seemed to make a much tidier and more stylish job of the refit of the studios in Wogan House a couple of years ago when their requirements were the same.

The new Wave studio looks great, but is it really a good idea to have the lighting for the whole room change according to whether the mic is live?

I really like the idea, but imagine having to spend 4 hours every morning in a room that's lit with either green or red lighting Confused
