Aurelie Casse could almost be considered a veteran at BFMTV, but she's going to a bigger profile gig which I hope will lead to newsier work for her with France Télévisions in the future.

BFM Soir, which replaces the 18/00 and 22/00 shows during Xmas and Summer has been given a new look. Can't find any captures of it on YouTube at the moment but it's amusing to me that the new studio backdrop is of Hong Kong!

Over on LCI, as previously announced Paul Larrouturou is leaving the TV channel to work on some social media related projects at TF1/LCI.

Big surprise as Laurent Ruquier, who is leaving France 2, will be joining Julie Hammett for the 20/21 slot. He says in this interview with Le Parisien he had also had an offer from TF1 to be on LCI. The show won't be launching till October though.

On a related note, I don't think I've posted Julie Hammett's goodbye on Thursday (well first of two, once at 22h15 and one at the end of the show).

If you wondered why Julie Hammett has an English surname, her father is from the UK, but was raised in Normandy and went to uni in Kent.

Meanwhile Ruquier was on Weekend Premiere to talk about his hiring.

Not a great start for Ruquier's hiring... Le Parisien (paywall) is reporting the move was made due to his close relationship with Marc-Olivier Fogiel (BFMTV's director), who dates back to when they worked at Canal+ in the late 90s. Additionally, the article cites an investigative report from the left-wing investigative outlet Off-Investigation (created by Jean-Baptiste Rivoire, a well-known investigative journalist known for his journalistic work on Canal+, where he created Spécial Investigation and attacked Bolloré's decision to drop the show), accusing Fogiel of an increasingly aggressive management style, accusations of increased bias towards Macron, and the decision to not use the word "police violence" being hotly contested by the newsroom journalists.

Here's the three part investigation previously mentioned (volunteer-led paywall):

Back to this, in an interview with Ozap/Puremédias, Ruquier told the concept of the slot he will helm with Hammett is still being on work. Hoping it doesn't become a L'Heure des Pros-like show, full of incessant clash, or something like On n'est pas couché !

Quote:Translated into English:

"We still have to see with Marc-Olivier Fogiel. All happened very quickly, that's why we're starting in October. In the meantime, we're going to think about setting up a team with Julie Hammett, with whom I am going to get to know. I'm thinking of new voices, new faces. I'm someone who knows how to distribute the word, that's my trademark. I'll be there to editorialise the slot, to make sometimes new choices, and at the same time to follow the latest news and perhaps also take another look, another angles to it. I'm here for that too"

Over at France 2, Hugo Clément will have a new talk show on the rentrée, which reminds of the controversial Ça se discute talker with Jean-Luc Delarue. Produced by Thierry Ardisson, the talker will have a format similar to Ça se discute, but will also have an increased interactive element.

Finally, this paywalled Télérama article is an exclusive insight on how the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will have an important presence in France Télévisions' programming and schedule during next season and in the run-up to the games. The new Aux jeux, citoyens ! magazine will finally launch next Monday (July 24).

RE: French TV - News Discussion - matthieu1221 - 19-07-2023

An end of season thread highlighting the success of BFMTV's local news channels.
https://twitter.com/BFMTV_Inside/status/1681613247659622402

All channels have a similar schedule:
'Bonjour [X]' between 6:30 and 9:30, then repeated until noon.
Some channels have a 12h-17h which is prerecorded and repeated. Others have the '[X] Direct' which is a presenterless loop instead.
'Bonsoir [X]' between 17/19h or 18h/20h for Paris, which is then repeated.
Then another presenterless loop until morning.
Weekends there is a '[X] Weekend' which is prerecorded and aired between 8am and 1pm. A '[X] Direct' presenterless loop runs the rest of the time.

BFM's local channels (Lyon in fact) pioneered what they call 'presentation autonome' in which the presenter does some of what a gallery would usually do.
