RE: French TV - News Discussion - Medianext.MX - 19-07-2023

The announcement of the new Quels jeux ! magazine, which will be the late night show airing after the Olympic broadcast day, has been completely chastised by the FranceTV Sport journalists unionised with the independent UNSA union. In an open letter, they denounce a proper highlights show has been on the works for a longtime, and was to be fully produced by FranceTV Sport teams.

The hiring of Léa Salamé and Michel Drucker, as well as the decision to not use any of FranceTV Sport’s journalists and/or pundits, has been taken in a very sour note by them; additionally, they denounced the decision to outsource the production of the new show to Hugo Clément’s production company Winter (they already make Quelle époque !, from which the show is being based).

IMHO, it looks like this is getting into a Wimbledon 2day-like scenario. I know the French are embracing indeed the Games, even more so France Télévisions, but viewers are accustomed to highlight shows after sporting events (for example, Vélo Club, which airs after each Tour de France day, or the short post-match debriefs after a French Open day). Additionally, Quelle époque ! has run often into hot water in many times, with its clash-ridden and often raunchy content not too dissimilar to what offer Touche pas à mon poste ! or even CNEWS’ L’heure des pros, and even what On n’est pas couché had.

After 27 years, LCI will be pulling out of the Sunday political show 'Le Grand Jury' co-produced and simulcasted on RTL (and Le Figaro) in favour of a new show called 'L’Évènement du dimanche LCI' presented by Marie Chantrait.

Over on franceinfo, Puremedias's Florian Guadalupe has posted a bit of news in a Tweet liked by Alexandra Uzan who presents on the channel.

It looks like that Émilie Tran Nguyen is the new Sophie Le Saint where they'll offer her the lunchtime shift to see out her contract then hardly ever turn up, so you still end up with afternoons being covered.

So M6 is competing against France 3 on the Sunday morning political show?

Pascale de la Tour du Pin is reportedly leaving BFMTV to host a new show on C8. Her midday show, Le Dej'Info, was due to be expanded by an hour from September. She rejoined BFMTV in 2021 after having hosted LCI's breakfast show between 2017 and 2021, before which she fronted BFMTV's breakfast show since 2010. Rumor is that she may even be Hanouna's joker (which seems more of a negative in my opinion than a positive).

And over on BFM Lyon, Léo Chapuis, who has anchored the breakfast show since the channel was bought by Altice and rebranded from Télé Lyon Métropole is leaving. Before this, he worked on franceinfo (when the radio news bulletins were still simulcast on TV). Replacing him is Aline Picard who currently hosts the pre-recorded midday slot on the channel.

BFM Paris's breakfast news anchor Tanguy de Lanlay has also left. Before joining BFM Paris to take over from Thomas Joubert in 2020, he worked for the parent channel and once hosted the Non Stop weekend slot.

Ashley Chevalier will take over Pascale de la Tour du Pin's slot. She was supposed to replace Jean-Baptiste Boursier on his Friday and Saturday evening slots. Those will apparently be taken over by François Gapihan now. Gapihan currently hosts l'Aprem Info (previously known as Non Stop) on weekdays, which will be replaced by a new show hosted by Pauline Simonet. It'll be a return to weekend evenings for him as he once used to host Weekend Direct.

Céline Pitelet will be hosting a new version of À l'épreuve des faits which she co-hosted in the past with Boursier, whilst Boursier's former Sunday evening slot has a new name with Benjamin Duhamel will be hosting 'C'est pas tous les jours dimanche'.

Roselyne Dubois will have an additional Q&A slot at 2:30pm similar to the one currently at 11:30am. Karine de Ménonville, who is being displaced from the weekday Aprem Info, will join current host Benjamin Dubois on weekends.

RE: French TV - News Discussion - Medianext.MX - 27-07-2023

The hiring of Pascale de la Tour du Pin will be simply the end of her career, or the start of a new era for Hanouna's show. I think the recent hirings, including that of Ségolène Royal as political analyst, had to do more to sorting out its credibility after a season of record-breaking fines, fines and fines over misinformation, conspiracy theories and all kinds of sorry excuses, as well as the increased sheer to a far-right "journalistic" agenda (beginning with the pandemic and thanks to Bolloré's strong relationship with Hanouna) and the increased crossovers with CNEWS' star pundits (including Pascal Praud and Zemmour during his Face à l'info era), leading to the show abandoning its initial younger target to get with C8's elderly-led audiences. But that won't be enough to straighten the show's sinking credibility, and its negative image among most viewers due to the aforementioned reasons.

To make things worse, one of France Télévisions' veteran sports and investigative reporters, Jacques Cardoze, who served also as Washington correspondent and presenter of Complément d'enquête, has been hired as chroniqueur, and will be part of the pundit lineup twice a week.

Speaking of which, they just got fined again!

Another thread of BFM's regional channel's ratings. In many markets, the local channel is the second most watched news channel (after BFMTV), in front of BFMTV's national competitors.
