RE: French TV - News Discussion - London Lite - 04-03-2024

The transparent straps seem to work better when using black. It doesn't work as well for the breaking news red.

Noticed when watching Parlons En on the French channel that they use two sets. A larger set and desk which has an explainer stand up area, and a much smaller cupboard area where they did a head to head debate.

Bit odd to launch a new grille today when it's clearly still in 'mode vacances' with no matinale on the English channel! Just the standard format news bulletins.

There's been some issues with capitalisation if I were to nitpick with a promo for Super tuesday (lowercase) and earlier on the French channel the first liner of the new newsbar starting off uncapitalised. Though that latter issue may be linked to the fact that there's been some variance between having the first liner in all caps and in regular case since this morning!

In all caps...

And in regular case...

I believe the sports habillage is also new:

The old newsbar and new flipper coexisted for a bit this morning! The new newsbar is also similarly transparent, so is the nametag when that pops up.

The 0600 open from the French channel, recorded from the Franceinfo simulcast which includes their clock and DOG.

While on Franceinfo, a new transparent box showing what is coming up during the Matinale.

Possibly a sign from the Coming Up Next that the 'regular' news intro was supposed to get a refresh yet hasn't been unveiled yet (the current one was used this morning)?

I'll give my thoughts later today but so far although it's now all live tranches throughout the day at least on the English channel it feels like they've had to spread content around. Paris Direct (the midday expanded ex-Live from Paris) edition feels more devoid of the 'chroniques' which used to be dotted throughout the show. Aside from the 'magazines' dotted around the tranches, there's also been segments of earlier 'tranches' such as 'chroniques' and interviews replayed in later ones.

I'm curious when will the Spanish version of France 24 adopt the new graphics, since their operations are based in Bogota.

Also, it would be better if they use Latin American visuals on some of the titles for the Spanish channel, instead of the French skyline.

I can't recall where I read it but early April was mentioned, possibly April 2nd. They already do use Latin America visuals for their version of Live from Paris/Paris Direct so I'd expect that the continue!

RE: French TV - News Discussion - matthieu1221 - 04-03-2024

So far today, apart from the new look which is growing on me along with certain themes (A La Une/Daybreak (the latter of which we have yet to see), Au Coeur de l'Info/World View and Around the World/Autour du Monde) -- not a big fan of the Paris Direct remix though, the original was simply perfect, some of the scheduling changes have been a bit of a mixed bag.

There's no more standard short news bulletins throughout the day but tranches instead. However, on the English channel Paris Direct was only live for the first TOTH and half hour (possibly hour) with the 2nd and 3rd hours being repeats of the first. I believe there was some element of technical issues perhaps as a further business chronique was teased at 1:20pm at the end of the one in the noon news bulletin.

Over on the French channel for whatever reason the 2pm half hour of Paris Direct was replayed at 3pm instead of Autour du Monde starting. Rather odd as the 2pm hour is focused on live footage and Elisabeth Allain said a proper goodbye at the end of that hour. After it did start at 3:30pm though, most of Autour du Monde was live with live coverage of the constitutional change voted on today in Versailles, but the last half hour seemed to be a repeat.

Back on the English channel, rather disappointingly the second hour of Around the World was a repeat and furthermore, oddly enough the 5pm hour was repeated at 6pm whereas Francois Picard should supposedly have taken over at that time for World View. Instead, World View started at 7pm with the debate at 7:10pm as previously.

The programs since 8pm are perhaps the biggest sign so far today that there's an issue behind the scenes (technical issues? strike?): a 15 minute bulletin at the 8pm TOTH followed by 45 minutes of filler then repeated every subsequent hour with different filler programs. At least on the French channel though, the bulletin has somewhat crudely been edited hour to hour so not quite an exact repeat. No sign at all of Mark Owen and I don't think we'll be seeing him today.

Indeed, it appears that there is some sort of industrial action taking place. I've seen very little other than filler content in the last hour. I did see an edition of Le Journal at the top of the 08h CET hour just now though, along with the new titles.

This notice from two weeks ago from what I believe is the main union that represents fulltime staff at France Médias Monde warned that France 24 was not properly staffed or ready for the big relaunch on March 4. I can't seem to see anything calling specifically for a strike, but the union clearly wanted the relaunch to be delayed.

Paris Direct's second hour on the English channel today was live.

Apparently some staff at RedBee which handles channel playout were on strike hence the channel essentially being on a lite version yesterday.

Edit: The CFTC union issued a press release confirming this
