Yes it's been like that for years. There's always going to be a limit to how many UK based acts there are that aren't singers and dancers. They had to reduce the number of audition days they did a few years ago (and quite last minute) because they're running low on the number of acts available. That's part of the reason why BGMT came to an end.

It's the same for international versions of the show and you'll notice how they often mention which other versions they've previously appeared on.

I’ve noticed they’ve had slightly more singers and dancers so far this series compared with the past few, although that mainly seems to have been at the expense of comedians (none so far?). But yes far more of the non-singers and dancers have been international. It doesn’t bother me at all as the shoe needs the variety the international acts bring.

Not sure if they’re running so low on acts that they wouldn’t have enough for BGMT though. They filmed 10 days of auditions this year. I’m not sure how many acts they see per day but I’d assume it’s 15-20, so that’s 150-200 acts in total. They seem to average about 10 acts per episode, so that’s about 80 across the series. So there’s plenty of material left on the cutting room floor. A lot of those acts might not be much cop but the bar for appearing on BGMT was pretty low anyway as it was more about Stephen and the judges/Ant & Dec.

The first year after BGMT went they did that BGT Unseen show on the ITV Hub with extra acts (but no host) but don’t think they’ve bothered with that since it came back from the year off.

BGMT usually featured the more silly acts - where there was more chance of hell freezing over than the act going through to the next round - and some unusual acts and the occasional novelty act that may been fun to watch and was occasionally put through but again wouldn't go any further.

I don't think any BGMT featured act went any further than the deliberations to get to the semi-final (after all that's what the main show is for). it was more about the person behind the act and, as stated above, between the main talent.

When I went to the auditions this year there were only 7 acts, and quite a lot of them (who got 3/4 yesses) are quite mediocre and boring and wouldn’t necessarily be good on tv. It’s entirely possible they have less of the crap-but-funny acts these days.

I guess they've tried to trim down the process so the judges aren't watching a couple of hundred acts that won't make the live shows.

There was an animated cat singing Michael Buble just now. Genuinely wondering what this show has come to.

It's the usual fluff that has no chance of winning but is included because it is more interesting than most acts, similar to the singing puppets last year and the Simon singing deepfake on AGT. Apparently, it's Tom Ball who voices the cat, so the fact that they couldn't even get someone new and up and coming says something.

I found it very odd. What exactly would they have been looking at and reacting to in the theatre?

I didn't watch the show but was intrigued by how they would show an animated cat.
A comment from an audience member on the YouTube video of the performance said that they had a projection screen they could see with the visuals.

Agree it was very strange. As others have said it’s possible they could see a projection on stage. I assume if it makes it to the lives we’ll find out because they won’t be able to just have nothing on the stage on live TV.

Felt like a bit of an attempt to inject a bit of ‘Masked Singer’ into the show. Interesting idea but not sure it was entirely successful. It will have polarised people for sure, between those curious to work out exactly what it was, those impressed by the (undeniably good) vocals, and those who thought it was a new low, an insult to their intelligence and will proclaim to switch off in protest.
