RE: International News Presentation: Past and Present - TeeGeeBee - 21-12-2023

Update regarding TVP's news programming changes scheduled for tonight at 19:30 CET.

More detail I could find according to ONET (Polish only)

https://www.onet.pl/informacje/onetwiadomosci/koniec-wiadomosci-tvp-program-z-nowa-nazwa-i-oprawa-bedzie-zaskakujaca/54s9jdv,79cfc278

General points I've found whilst translating this article:

- Wiadomości, the main news program, will be discontinued.
- A new name and opening sequence have already been produced for the replacement program.
- Paweł Płuska, reporter for TVN's Fakty (a news programme that was mostly critical of the previous government) is now editor-in-chief.
- Marek Czyż, a former TVP newsreader who resigned in protest in 2016, will be presenting tonight's program, having announced changes to TVP's news output yesterday.

And here's how the new '19:30' programme launched (preceded by a pointed description of an 'informational program') - presumably from a temporary studio, and unsurprisingly, the reforms to TVP's news was the lead item.

In historical context, it seems quite reminiscent of when 'Wiadomości' in its original form initally replaced the Communist-era 'Dziennik Telewizyjny' ('Official Television') in November 1989.

On a separate note, do like their Christmas pres, I must admit.

I actually like the look of their new news programme, 19:30, it does have a feel of BBC Scotland's 'The Nine'.

I'm slightly intrigued as to how some media outlets have obtained a fuller version of the interrupted broadcast, given that not all of it seemed to make it to air?

It is interesting - the version that made it to the air stopped at the phrase "Perhaps Polish media (TVP) have been taken over" before a buffer stepped in (as on video below). I guess someone had to give it to them, presumably former leadership (as it benefits them more than the new heads of TVP).

(just a note: the guy who appears here was not a host of this episode of Agrobiznes (news for farmers) and he crashed into the show to bring in 'special edition of Wiadomości [main news broadcast]'; this is most likely the last broadcast coming from the last leadership that as of now still is in control of news HQ (Powstańców Warszawy Sq.), while current news broadcasts come from Woronicza St. HQ which was taken over by new leadership).

Leaving the TVP fiasco, looks like Nine News is reintroducing the globe to their graphics next year, at least in Melbourne:

Also, their afternoon news in Adelaide is pushed earlier from 5 to 4pm, in line with other parts of the nation:
Quote:This will coincide with the introduction of Nine Adelaide’s new weekday programming lineup – Nine Adelaide’s Afternoon News at 4pm, followed by the new Tipping Point Australia at 5pm and then Nine Adelaide’s nightly 6pm News with Brenton Ragless and Kate Collins.

This is indeed the case. 19.30 is coming from the TVP Sport newsroom, according to insiders which told reputed industry publication WirtualneMedia.pl. This has indeed come with many challenges: the newscast is treated as an "absolute start-up", being produced with little resources (including having some technical difficulties and even lacking a consistency in the packaging of reports and using material acquired from agencies, not supplied by their own correspondents).

https://www.wirtualnemedia.pl/artykul/19-30-wiadomosci-tvp1-marek-czyz-reporterzy-zwolnienia-rekrutacja-studio-newsroom

Nevertheless, the first day’s show was a rousing success, with it achieving 4.29 million viewers on TVP1 and TVP Info, beating TVN’s Fakty and Polsat’s Wydarzenia by a wide margin.

https://www.wirtualnemedia.pl/artykul/19-30-debiut-tvp1-marek-czyz-wiadomosci-ogladalnosc

As for the sit-in, Wiadomości teams have joined it, with PiS-era news director Michał Adamczyk leading a special broadcast which was broadcast on right-wing, pro-PiS news channel Telewizja Republika, deliberately counter programming Marek Czyż's announcement of the launch of the new 19.30 newscast:

https://youtu.be/dZ1I49us3WY

Czyż's announcement, which promised that the new newscast would have "a photograph, not a painting", and it will not deliver "a propaganda soup", but "pure water", plus announcing the cancellation of that day's news, was watched the day before by an average of 2.59 million viewers, a low rating for a "normal" ratings standard, but also generating strong curiosity on the future of the news service, all before it switched to the TVP1 breakdown slide:

https://www.wirtualnemedia.pl/artykul/marek-czyz-tvp1-wiadomosci-ogladalnosc

Going forward, the new 19.30 program will feature Czyż and Zbigniew Łuczyński as alternating presenters. Łuczyński was hired from TVN (as it was their new editor Paweł Płuska), where he was the long-tenured presenter of tabloid news magazine Uwaga!; he left the show earlier in the year due to differences related to changes to the show. As for Czyż, he's back at TVP after a stint on Radio Zet.

https://www.wirtualnemedia.pl/artykul/zbigniew-luczynski-prowadzacy-19-30-tvp1-wiadomosci-tvn-koniec-uwaga

Płuska and Łuczyński are not the only outside hirings: the new TVP management is also hiring many highly-ranked and long-tenured reporters from both TVN and Polsat, including Tomasz Marcek (19.30's deputy editor), Juliusz Kaszyński, Joanna Dunikowska-Paź, Wioleta Wramba, Piotr Jędrzejek, Małgorzata Nowicka-Aftowicz, Bartek Cebeńko and Milena Bobrowska. Additionally, another of the anchors who resigned after the PiS takeover, Jarosław Kulczycki (last seen on Superstacja/Wydarzenia24) is returning to TVP, and will serve as editor of TVP2's news service. Kulczycki anchored Panorama from 2004 to 2006, and, after an interim period at Polsat, he returned to TVP in 2007 to anchor Wiadomości on TVP1, before becoming one of the main anchors at TVP Info. Grzegorz Sajór, who is now the broadcaster's news director, is also back at the broadcaster, having defected TVP also during the PiS takeover. As for TVP Info, the network has not been closed, it has just suspended regular programming, as a new editor, Paweł Moskalewicz, formerly of Bloomberg Poland and Forum magazine (which closed earlier this year), has been hired to lead the network, and will serve as deputy to Sajór.

At this hour, even the chaos continues: Many of the PiS-era employees have been fired last night as 19.30 premiered, and TVP plans to reinstate many workers which resigned after the PiS takeover. Moreover, the new management has taken over most of the social media channels of the group, except TVP Info's Twitter/X account, managed personally by Samuel Pereira (the PiS-era editor of the network), which remained under the control of Pereira. He even defied the new management by airing a cam-scanned live broadcast of TVP Info's internal broadcast on the network's YouTube channel during the afternoon, which led to a take down notice just over a half-hour later; additionally, some documentaries which had pro-PiS political overtones have been removed from its TVP VOD streaming offering:

Major news coming out of Poland tonight in relation to the current situation regarding TVP and the shutdown/reorganisation of its news output - it is now being reported that the new pro-EU government has decided to take things a step further, as they have announced that the entire state broadcaster (TV, radio and the news department) will be placed into liquidation:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67828421

Clearly a significant escalation from the new Polish government with regards to their attempts to reform state broadcasting in the country.
