The ProSiebenSat.1 German FTA channels soft-relaunched its news offerings on New Year's Day. The rationale for the change is the expiration of a news sharing agreement with Axel Springer's news channel Welt (formerly N24). This sharing agreement went into effect shortly after P7S1 sold the news and documentary channel to a group of independent investors in 2010, which later sold it to Axel Springer in 2014.

Instead of signing a new sharing agreement, P7S1 took the bold decision to relaunch an in-house news operation, including building new facilities in their headquarters in the Unterföhring suburb of Munich, part of a larger campus project for the broadcaster. The news operations are being overseen by a newly-created division of their in-house production company, Seven.One Entertainment Group, under the direction of Sven Pietsch, also responsible for factual programming. A Welt veteran editor, Arne Teetz, is serving as managing editor, whilst Charlotte Potts, formerly anchor of the ZDF Morgenmagazin, will be the political editor, based in Berlin.

As part of the massive relaunch of the news department, P7S1 hired a number of key news presenters and reporters from mainly public service broadcasters ARD and ZDF, including Karolin Kandler and Linda Zervakis. Additional presenting changes were made: Marc Bator took the decision to stop presenting the Sat.1 news on weekdays to take on a reduced role, including anchoring on weekends and as fill-in; he was replaced by Claudia von Brauchitsch; additionally, former Welt and DW Español anchor and reporter Angela van Brakel joins Norbert Anwander as anchor of Kabel 1's news bulletins, as Barbara Scherle has been promoted to occupy a principal editor position in the new operation.

Although the operations are back in-house, they are no graphical changes to be seen as of right now. The horrid virtual set designs introduced in 2021 (when Welt moved to its new studio at the Axel Springer House) are being retained, as is each channels' news designs; however, this is a temporary measure. P7S1 plans to gradually introduce from May a common, unified news brand, where newscasts in all three channels and a new digital offering will sit. Additionally, a real set design is being built for the common brand, set to launch this summer.

Even with the outsourcing agreement with P7S1 being over, Welt eventually decided to sign a new agreement with Red Bull-owned ServusTV, whose German operation is starting to detach from its Austrian counterpart. The Vienna-based access prime slot was replaced with new shows targeted at the local audience, including Germany-specific newscasts at 6pm and 7:20pm (aping the slots of its Austrian newscasts) and a lighter style magazine produced by subsidiary Maz & More, Guten Abend Deutschland.

These new shows debuted on January 9; however, it has been having low ratings since its inception, which is no surprise given the start-up nature of the venture. These new broadcasts air from a refurbished Studio 2 at the Axel Springer House, with a real studio coming from their to-go set designers Veech x Veech.

Some months after the main MTV channel branding was restructured, MTV Uutiset has a new look coinciding to the newsroom moving from their longtime headquarters in Pasila to a new building in the Vallila district in Helsinki (Uusi Pöllölaakso). Additionally, its morning programme Uutisaamu got back its longtime name Huomenta Suomi.

50 years ago today Lyndon Johnson, the 36th President of the United States died of a heart attack at the age of 64, here is how Walter Cronkite reported the news of his death on the CBS Evening News while on the phone with Tom Johnson, the press secretary of former President Johnson (no relation)

At the time, Tom Johnson wasn't already the press secretary of President Johnson, but had still a close relationship with him. Johnson's family, led by his wife Lady Bird Johnson, were owners at the time of then-CBS affiliate KTBC 7 in Austin, alongside a half-dozen radio stations in the state capital; thanks to such relationship, frequently scrutinized by newspapers over political influence, Tom Johnson became the VP and general manager of KTBC after he left as Press Secretary. Shortly after the broadcast, the Johnsons had to sell KTBC to the Los Angeles-based Times Mirror Company, as the FCC enacted new cross-ownership rules the prior year; her family had bought a majority stake in the local cable franchise holder in Austin.

After Lyndon Johnson died, the Johnsons retained ownership of their radio stations, and they did so for around 24 years. As Lady Bird's health declined, her family sold the stations to a partnership made of their employees and Norfolk, Virginia based radio station operator Sinclair Telecable (not related to the Sinclair Broadcast Group), named as LBJS Corporation; in 2003, given the growing trend toward consolidation in the media industry, the employees sold a majority stake in the group to Emmis Communications, which also granted them the ability to operate the stations. The partnership was undone in 2019, with Sinclair taking full operation of the stations, including reorganizing its Austin cluster as a fully independent subsidiary under the name of Waterloo Media, allowing Sinclair to concentrate on its hometown Norfolk stations.

In the case of KTBC, after being sold to Times-Mirror, they remained status-quo until the first incarnation of Argyle Television bought it in 1994; some months later, New World Communications bought Argyle and, as result, it became subject to the massive affiliation agreement with Fox in the wake of their acquisition of NFL rights; the switch to Fox, a resurgent KXAN and KVUE and the launch of KEYE's newscasts have affected KTBC's ratings since the late 90s, pushing them to a distant fourth in the ratings. Since 1997, KTBC is a full-flown Fox O&O.
