RE: Corrie - Stuart - 28-06-2023

Some great Classic Corrie at the moment on ITV3.

Gail Potter-Tilsley-Platt-Hillman-McIntyre-Rodwell deliciously described one of her husbands as "Norman Bates with a briefcase". I chuckled a great deal. Big Grin

I am sure I also did the same 20 years ago. Tongue

It's all now 16:9, and at least upscaled to pseudo HD.

One of her most iconic quips of recent years, alongside the meme-worthy "I'M ON PILLS FOR GOD'S SAKE!"

Superb performance by Maureen Lipman tonight.

"Here comes the rest of the village people" is another one- that shouldn't be too far off either.

That makes me feel old if something produced in 16:9 legitimately qualifies as classic

RE: Corrie - JAS84 - 30-06-2023

Well, those ARE 20 years old. When Doctor Who came back in 2005, the old series was referred to by fans as Classic Who - and the last episode (not counting the 1996 TV movie) was 16 years old (Survival, which aired in 1989). That's like calling something from 2007 classic now.

So the first couple of series of the new era will be older for the latest reboot than the last of the classic era were back in 2005.

Think it's partly due to picture quality/effects etc., general technology and of course your own age but 15-20 years ago now doesn't seem the distance it was 20 years ago.   With most late noughties content the biggest tells really they aren't new content are the mobile phones.

RE: Corrie - James2001 - 05-07-2023

A few shots of boom mics creeping into the top of the frame on today's first ITV3 episode- including at the very beginning.

Happened quite a bit in the 70s and 80s (admittedly would have been cut off by overscan on many TVs), but I'd have expected them to be more careful about it by 2003.

RE: Corrie - cando - 06-07-2023

Was 2003 around the time it went to 5 episodes a week permanently? There might have been possible teething/scheduling issues and subsequent corners were cut.

RE: Corrie - IndigoTucker - 06-07-2023

2003 was still the age of the CRT remember - so these boom mics would partially have been have been in overscan, despite being in widescreen.
