Channel 5 as one of the legacy PSBs have an obligation to provide news bulletins which they've been gradually shifting to off-peak to get it out of the way. The ITN operation is low budget and has a tiny on-air team, which is why you'll regularly see correspondents cover the main 5pm bulletin. They also provide a short lunchtime bulletin and headlines at 6.55, 7.55 and 8.58pm on weekdays.

A heavy amount of their current affairs hours is covered by the topical discussion shows Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley and Alexis Conran which are scheduled from mid-morning to lunchtime, also produced by ITN from the same studio as 5 News.

They don’t do the 8.58 bulletin anymore I don’t think?

Still in the schedule this week and next.

RE: 5 News - mouseboy33 - 01-12-2023

from the sounds of it,,,,,seems a long way from those ambitious heady launch broadcast back in the 90s.

RE: 5 News - eyeTV - 01-12-2023

5 News at 5 stopping early as usual pre-Christmas, the last edition on 15th December. Which always seems far too early to go off air to be honest.

RE: 5 News - London Lite - 01-12-2023

So Wednesday was a double header with two correspondents and today was Dan Walker solo.

RE: 5 News - London Lite - 12-12-2023

Claudia-Liza is back today after a break.

RE: 5 News - lookoutwales - 03-01-2024

Dan's joining Classic FM to present its breakfast show.

He'll also be staying with 5 News.

RE: 5 News - Pips2022 - 03-01-2024

That seems rather gruelling. I assume he won’t work Fridays on either Classic FM or Channel 5

RE: 5 News - XIII - 03-01-2024

Not to say radio is less work than TV but compared to BBC Breakfast or 5 News, it's a cushy job on Classic FM,
