RE: BBC/ITV North East News - South - 30-01-2023

Or the new one is small enough for Studio B?

The HD upgrade is a separate project from the roll out of the new sets. Southampton got the HD upgrade about 5 months ago but the set did not change, the scratches on the background remain and look even worse in HD.

Updated sceneries for the late titles for BBC Look North. But the place names said Look North?

Newcastle has a much better lit set then say compared to Leeds so it should look decent in a few weeks time in HD.

There are entire essays to be written on the decline of television lighting - both studio lighting and, increasingly, artistic lighting in dramas. Some new news sets, in particular, have been noticeably badly lit in the past few years - I suspect it's partly down to people not used to the brightness of the newer LED videowalls, but there have been a few where the background-foreground balance has been so off - when Wales Today's current studio launched I was absolutely shocked by the quality of the lighting. I mean, say what you will about the rinky-dink news studios back at TVC, but at least they were always well lit (I guess N9 did get a bit dark in the World's later years in there, though I understand this was a bit more managed decline than a poor lighting director).

Is there a reason why the two appear to be linked?

It was suggested further up the thread that the upgrades they got were the same as Southampton, so perhaps following a template in terms of updated animating graphics, revised titles (images) and revised closing music?

Sound issues at the end of tonight's Look North. Coming back from the weather, voices seemingly from the gallery could be heard and weren't faded out for a few seconds. Then when the (relief) newsreader said goodbye to the viewers, the sound of the ending theme was low or silent for a few moments before being faded up.

The main story is likely to be Transpennine Express, which is convenient as it’s relevant for both regions.
