I interviewed the producer some time afterwards at a music festival in Wrexham (he joined Made TV for a while, IIRC) and apparently, the tapes (and one imagines a lot of Channel M’s output) had gone missing since the station’s demise.

The infamous 'Live Into 85' from Gleneagles Hotel - or at least the first half that was shown UK-wide until Network opted out (Scotland got another half hour) - has been uploaded.
Whether it deserved its notorious reputation is up to you to decide. The rest of the recording is part of one of STV's more traditional studio-bound Hogmanay shows.

Not technically gold but thought it was worth sharing. Ant & Dec have revealed they auditioned for the Radio 1 breakfast show when they were trying out replacements for Zoe Ball (must have been 1999 or 2000?)

Would've been quite a good bag for Radio 1 at the time, but no doubt it probably would have been a big ask for the boys whilst they were still doing SM:TV, although it seems they did have those worries initially before changing their minds.
Surprising that the BBC didn't go for them in the end in favour of Sara Cox, considering that they both seemed enthusiastic about starting, and at the time Cox started on breakfast she'd had only been on Radio 1 for a few months, and (back then) had a relatively smaller profile than Ant & Dec, only really being known for The Girlie Show.
I imagine it probably would have ended around roughly the same time that Cox ended on breakfast, particularly as by 2004 whilst SM:TV had ended they were getting more primetime shows over at ITV.

Didn't stop Zoe doing it and Live & Kicking at the same time for a while.
