In 1999/2000 though they weren't in their schedule. Missed that bit of the interview - was thinkingcwhen they were on that I didn't thinkbthey'd ever done radio. Wouldn't be surprised if they start up a podcast to plug the gap of Takeaway ending - get the impression that is where the money can be made nowadays.

News of Jurgen Klopp's impending departure from Liverpool has almost inevitably reminded some of us about a classic Granada Reports moment in July 1974 when Bill Shankly retired.

And of all the reporters they could have sent to the city to gather reaction from the fans, they chose Tony Wilson...

A somewhat controversial edition of 100% shown as part of a Channel 5 theme night marking the first anniversary of Princess Diana's death.

Seen in hindsight, it's rather less dubious - and the usual graphics have been toned down somewhat - although somehow, the question writers still couldn't resist the odd trademark gag answer here and there.

An apt tribute to mark the very sad news that Steve Brown (aka Glenn Ponder) - composer for KMKYWAP, SMTV and most of Harry Hill’s TV and stage work, died this weekend at the age of 66.

The recent passing of Ian Lavender (Pike in Dad's Army) sent a 2008 Celebrity Mastermind moment viral:

There was some discussion a while back (in the other Social Media Gold thread) about a BBC South West chat show called That's Rich (with Spotlight weatherman Craig Rich), seemingly produced from the well-sized Plymouth studio complete with a studio audience.

Anyone care for a full episode? (apologies for the cropped video)

RE: Social Media Gold - James2001 - 18-02-2024

This is something I've read about for years, but not actually seen until now, the infamous Turn-On:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDpum0Jp7Gw

Cancelled by ABC after one episode in 1969 (or during the first episode depending on whose story you believe), supposedly due to its sexual content. Not that there's much in there that seems particularly shocking today... feels more juvenile by today's standards- like having the word sex flashing on screen for 2 minutes while two people make lusty faces at each other- something that might get adolescents giggling but doesn't seem remotely shocking or controversial, or even clever or amusing, now.

After years of hearing about the show and it being an enigma, seeing the actual thing feels a bit of a let down, not anywhere near as shocking as I imagined (1969 US TV audiences must have had really low boundaries), but really, really strange, even incomprehensible at times. Even without the sexual content, the whole thing feels too bizarre to have survived anyway, it cuts between things so fast and the music and sound effects are so strange that people wouldn't have stayed watching. I had a headache after watching!

They've also uploaded more- the second episode that was completed but never broadcast, and a "lost" episode that was uploaded last week and seems to have been cobbled together from footage shot for the incompleted episodes, deleted footage from the first 2 episodes, and possibly footage from elsewhere (there's a fair amount of videotaped material on colourful sets, whereas the two completed episodes are entirely on film and on a white background, possibly indicating it was originally shot for something else).

It was the music for me - the Moog soundtrack seems purposely designed to make my anxiety levels go through the roof. It’s an absolute relief when the adverts come on.
