Back in The London Studios, their Studio 1 had a very distinct audience platform, part balcony supplemented by additional movable seating, to make around 640 audience capacity

Studio TC1 at Television Centre even though is much larger than Studio 1 at TLS was, just doesn't have that large audience seating, as we found out from the behind the scenes programme they use under 500 capacity seating, which makes it look smaller on screen, and less of a run down for Ant and Dec to do each week.

When it was built LWT’s studio 1 was promoted as the largest studio in the UK with permanent seating. Note the careful choice of words there.
That is right, as Studio 1 when it opened in 1974 had a permanent balcony seating area, which was unique for a television studio at the time. This meant Studio 1 had a very distinct look for it's audience platform, which was seen on so many LWT shows such as Blind Date, Game for a Laugh, An Audience With etc.

That audience structure remained unchanged, right up to the time the studio closed down.

TC1 wanted to provide a similar look to it's audience platform, but for some reason, they can only provide a smaller audience than Studio 1 had - as I said, Studio 1 could accommodate audiences of up to near 640 people, whereas TC1 can only go up to a maximum of 550, which Ant and Dec don't use, their audience number of just short of 500.

TC1 is also much larger than Studio 1, larger by over 2,000 Sq Ft in size, but has a smaller audience platform which is noticeable on screen - well noticeable to people like us who have in interest these details.

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - Josh - 18-05-2023

Saturday Night Takeaway will take a break after series 20 next year. https://twitter.com/antanddec/status/1659242486659678230?t=j34NtY1POpySkf31Mh7hVw&s=19

EDIT: Clarification from official tweet that there will be a series next year.

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - Gary Baldy - 18-05-2023

I doubt that’s true. Didn’t they say see you next year at the end of the last series?

Oh no. If they quit anything I’d have thought they’d have quit BGT as this is very much ‘their’ show.

Big hole in ITV’s schedule if this happens, hopefully they do a finale special before it finishes.

EDIT: Series 20 is going ahead next year, and it’ll be the last one ‘for a little while’ as per Ant and Dec’s twitter.

It is true .

ITV will miss it a lot.

What’s the betting it returns in 2029 for the 25th anniversary.

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - Milkshake - 18-05-2023

I wonder if they are planning to have another series if Im a celb all stars in South Africa to plug the winter gap?  To be fair the series has lost its way over the years and there is nothing wrong with putting something to bed for a while.

Lets not forget they did this before around 2010? Then it come back..

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - eyeTV - 18-05-2023

I think it does need a rest and a freshen up of the schedule won't hurt.

Maybe offer Stephen Mulhern his own Saturday night show.

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - Gary Baldy - 18-05-2023

Interesting.

They did have breaks from the show before though.

The show didn’t air at all between 2010 and 2012.

Or in 2019.

And 2020 and 2021’s series were significantly affected by COVID.

2022’s series was a good return to form, though 2023’s was a bit weak.

“Last series for a little while” or last series ever I wonder?

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - JMT1985 - 18-05-2023

Please remember Ant and Dec "rested" Saturday Night Takeaway once before. Anyone remember at the end of the 2009 series they took a break and didn't return until 2013, so this is nothing new here from these two.

The show needs a break. It is a tired format by now, and considering they have their new game show Limitless Win to fill the February to April void left by Takeaway, and they are staying with BGT and I'm A Celebrity, this is a perfect decision in my opinion.

Interesting though that they did sign a new contract for three years with ITV, but does this new contract start in 2024, after the conclusion of the SNT series before their break?

Maybe offer Stephen Mulhern his own Saturday night show.

He already has In For A Penny - and is also the new host for the rebooted Deal or No Deal on ITV1 this year.
