RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - cable - 18-05-2023

It had a very good run. But time has moved on. I will enjoy the next series knowing that it will be ending. I had the feeling it should be rested for the last 3 years. Maybe it does come back after a few years... maybe not.

Not saying A&D are past it at all but ITV now need to find new talent. Without CITV and kids TV as a springboard as demonstrated in the past with the likes of Holly and Stephen.

In January of this year, it was announced Ant and Dec had signed a new contract deal with ITV, so they are not going away anytime soon.

Hopefully the replacement for SNT won't be a standard quiz show.

Kids TV isn't much of a springboard anymore anyway, most new talent seems to come out of reality formats these days.

I bet it will be Mulhern fronted though!

Thank goodness Ant and Dec released that Twitter clip announcing exactly what is going on, so we didn’t have to put up with all that tabloid nonsense that was initially posted

Nothing has been AXED and nobody has QUIT and nothing is THROWN INTO CHAOS as ITV have the best part of two years to schedule a replacement

RE: Saturday Night Takeaway - fanoftv - 18-05-2023

Many posters are saying that it is a tired format, however, I disagree. As with many multi format shows there will be some items that hit and others that don’t. I love live programming and Saturday Night Takeaway is a perfect example of how to do it well; the boys, surrounding cast and production team make (for me) a very entertaining series every year and I will miss the show enormously. Hopefully ITV give other live, entertainment programmes a chance in the slot or elsewhere, though hopefully not another talent search, singing or celebrity participant format.

I’ll miss the show. Sure it’s quality ebbs and flows but I still find it a highly enjoyable hour and a half of TV. I hope it is just a rest and it does return in some shape or form in the future.

Perhaps not but reality TV stars don't have the same wide appeal. Lets be honest social media stars seldom make the transfer to mainstream appeal (if anything they end up on kids TV)

BBC News is now reporting on this:

Quote:Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will take a break from Saturday Night Takeaway after the 2024 series, ITV has said.

Reaching the "milestone" of 20 series seemed like the "perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath," the presenting duo said.

The series previously took a pause in 2009 - returning four years later.
