I think people's distate or dislike of the pregnancy prank is a way over the top. It is likely then they watch nothing else on TV for fear of beinhg offended. The prank was set up with full agreement with his wife. She was in on the joke. She knew exactly what he could take especially as he is a prankster. If anything happened then the prank would not have been shown and no one one be the wiser.

As for teh show itself. I still very much enjoy it. Some weeks are better than others but it is 90 minutes that fly by. It would be interesting to see them introduce new items rather than adapt current ones.

SNT comfortably beat The Wheel last night - 5.1m against 3m - so clearly people still like it. McIntyre starting to feel the 'Pointless effect' of being on all the time now.

Although he's only coming off the back of a six week run of the Big Show - same as Ant and Dec with Limitless Win.    And Ant and Dec will then be on for another couple of months with BGT.

Ratings are what they are now but we're almost at the level of their first series now which averaged less than 5m back in 2002, although in a June/July slot.   They added a couple of million for their second series but pretty lucky ITV were willing to back them back then.

Maybe Ant and Dec being on more than most presenters does affect ratings but they are mostly in the background on BGT whereas McIntyre is the star of both his shows and does a lot of heavy lifting to make them work.

Ant & Dec have spoken about creating some sort of scripted content for years now, weren’t they even in discussions about doing some sort of sitcom a few years ago? I suspect that it fulfils that itch for them.

Edit: Yes. Two shows were in development in 2013: a sitcom titled ‘This is Us’, and a silent comedy format. In 2020 the tabloids said they were in ‘extensive’ talks about creating a sitcom for ITV, but there’s been nothing since.

The think SNT needs to end it's 90 minute format and just be a 60 minute show. Even Noel's House Party on the BBC for most of it's run was around 50 minutes.

Have a tighter show leads to less padding. But of course ITV want to sell more advertising for these two, especially to get back the massive salaries they pay Ant and Dec
