Watching these clips is really nostalgic, been watching the channel since 1999 so have lived through all its various revamps and relaunches, it just shows what a great channel it was at its peak, compared to the run down service we have now

Which leads me to ask what was everyone's favourite era?

Here’s what got me interested in TV, when the news channel and nationals moved from Television Centre to Broadcasting House. Goodbye BBC News Channel.

Thought that I might as well finish the chart showing how the channel's standard daily schedule has evolved over the years, bringing it into line with the final schedule. Unfortunately, there's still a bit of uncertainty in the early years - where the schedule was changed frequently but existing schedules are sparse.

You might have to open the image in a new tab to get a proper look.

The flags original and around 2008 when they had that exciting headlines music before it went all white and red and boring again.

I can remember getting my freeview box when I was in yesr 9 of high school and discovering news 24 and then as hooked.

I loved the 2007/8 era too. I loved the headline music. It made it feel like this was all happening live, they were getting the lines in as they spoke (which they were). The story was developing there and then if that makes sense. I also loved the on screen graphics at this time especially the breaking news or update which had that small logo to the left.

I agree with you too Harshy about the 2008 rebrand. I always felt it was a massive step down from the 2007/8 clam shell look. I’ve never liked it. It always was News 24.  Such a shame we are loosing it.

It's the era captured below that had wonderful graphics back in the day. Simplistic, eye catching and they worked!

Another vote from me for the years immediately preceding the 2008 relaunch. That’s when the channel felt well resourced, self confident, a great line-up of presenters, good music, graphics, a nice set.

There have been some great presenter pairings too over the years, like Simon and Carrie: https://youtu.be/CXiLxFu1CJo

Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis: https://youtu.be/0XCRQvDKBTc

It won't happen for obvious reasons, but imagine how nice it would have been to have something like this next Friday, presented by Jane Hill perhaps.

My only memory of the flags era was seeing it briefly at a friend's house as he had cable TV. I first got access to News 24 at home in September 2000 and it's from then until the December 2003 relaunch that was my favourite era. I loved everything about it from the set design to the titles and music. Even the presenters were top drawer with some very experienced faces.

After 2003 I thought it had a cheap, plasticky feeling. 2007-08 was another high point as the music was absolutely outstanding and they had polished and finessed the graphics by that point. 2008-present has been distinctly boring to me, having seen the high points of the early years. Everything about it is bland from the music to the graphics and set. The only thing I have liked during that era is Studio E once they moved to Broadcasting House. That was a massive improvement over N6.

I've had a dig around on my hard drive and found some screengrabs I took in 2002 which give a snapshot into that era for anyone who missed it:
