I wasn’t a fan of that era, it basically looks like they were presenting a double headed network bulletin rather than a news channel

Great photos, thanks. I didn’t know Jon Kay had presented on the news channel and I thought Declan had left by the time they moved to NBH.

I think Declan had stopped presenting regular business updates by that point, but still continued to present Your Money on a Saturday morning for another year or so, I assume that's where the photo above is from. I remember quite liking the partnership he had with Maxine when she hadn't over to him at the start of the segment.

Back in the late noughties there was criticism for the lack of older female presenters, so they brought in and publicised the appointments of Julia Somerville, Fiona Armstrong, Zeinab Badawi and Carole Walker. I don’t think any of them had fixed slots and I can’t ever recall seeing Zeinab Badawi on the channel to be honest. But Carole Walker was used quite a bit until she went to Times Radio.

Quite a good time to bring this up considering they’re currently in the process of making all of the women over 50 on the channel redundant (albeit in this case the BBC One team now includes multiple women whose current age would have considered them older at the time).

Julia also did a few BBC One weekend bulletins. I don't know about the others - I think maybe Zeinab might have done one or two? She was always much more of a World face anyway. And yes, Carole was a very regular presenter on the News Channel for some years.

Zeinab frequently presented the 7pm World News Today edition that was broadcast on BBC Four, so was in a sense a prominent face for UK-viewers as well.

That's right - Julia Somerville also did a few weekend Breakfast editions from N6, and Fiona Armstrong presented one Sunday edition with Roger Johnson from Salford.

Julie Somerville stopped presenting before the move to NBH, but Fiona Armstrong did present on the News Channel (and a couple of weekend lunchtime BBC One bulletins) from Studio E.

A couple more images for you, including another old News Channel face:

Zeinab Badawi presented a late morning shift on the News Channel on July 5, 2010, according to my caps. Big Grin
