It's funny you mention drivetime. Someone on here (I think it was @DTV) suggested that if a radio show had to be visualised for the news channel, it should have been PM rather than Nicky Campbell. I think if it were produced in that style you suggest, they could be on to a winner. I like your idea for the combined post-22:30 slot, too.

PM and Today from Radio 4 would be excellent alternatives for the simulcast option which would allow for breaking news to be handled much easier than how they handled the Sunak speech this morning.

Since finding the global ad-free stream of BBC News this morning, I can say how raw a deal we got in the UK.

Graphics all pull together and feels like an actual channel to the same quality of the old BBC News Channel.

Obviously no BBC iPlayer references of uses of the Chameleon icons for BBC Sport or Weather, the whole look just works.

Content wise, so much better, top of the hour news and bottom current affairs and docos. I would be much happier if we could have this instead.

In a way it is sad we lost the BBC News Channel but now it's a halfway house.

I would also be happier if they stripped out the BBC One and BBC Two broadcasts so we continued with what really is a renamed BBC World News.

Do your national bulletins, Breakfast and Nicky plus Newsnight on domestic services and just give us global channel?

I'm sorry, but if I wanted to listen to a phone-in I would tune in to it on the radio. I really think this simulcast is a poor decision, especially when it doesn't save the BBC any money.
Echoing others here who say by all means stick it on BBC Two if you must, but give us a choice on BBC News - in the meantime, when I do get the opportunity to watch the news in the daytime, it'll be Sky for me.

Exactly my thoughts. What we've got is an international news channel with editorially more emphasis on UK news that before and the option to opt out to focus on a live UK breaking story. And if you want a UK focused news bulletin you have the well produced main bulletins on BBC One/iPlayer or can follow the news online. This is all fine by me, and if fact has the potential to offer more content and choice to the UK viewer than we had before.

The issue is then the simulcasting! The Campbell phone in Is on BBC Two, 5 Live and News. That is 3 channels (!) with the same output, all while you have a news channel you can't see. And the same goes for the main news bulletins and Newsnight. The News channel is effectively shut down for UK viewers for going on 5 hours each day.

Yes I understand why they do this, to increase the domestic output we are told, but as a domestic viewer I'm getting less content that I otherwise would have! It's completely mad.

The point of visualising the radio programme is clearly not to make some brilliant, must watch show, it's to increase the number of UK only hours on this new channel so OFCOM will be happy with it. In my opinion it offers a nice variation from the standard BBC News bulletins. It's a unique simulcast in that it's actually quite different compared to the radio version. Surely it's much better than just showing the same TV programme on two different channels, something that happens all too frequently at present. 

People on here have been complaining that there's too many generic BBC News bulletins on the new channel. In the circumstances the Beeb currently find themselves in, this Radio 5 Live simulcast seems like a good middle ground between producing original content for the News Channel and better utilising content across multiple mediums.

Whilst I think there is some logic in visualising some of the radio output I'm not sure an existing phone-in is the best option. Ideally they'd have launched a new show across 5 Live and BBC News designed more to be simulcast, perhaps more focused on talking to the newsmakers of the day than taking calls. Of course though the Nicky Campbell show is pretty successful for 5 Live so they won't want to mess with that (even if they are willing to dump the content usually on BBC News / BBC2) - but can't help but feel it's a question of when, not if, at the moment that 5 Live gets butchered in the way the News Channel has been.

A very small audience. Viewership at that time on WN is at its lowest so very few would get to watch a purely World bulletin while the UK audience gets a televised call-in show. Reading the comments here suggest televising Nicky Campbell wasn't bad and might have potential to work very well on TV. But I think the timing of his show is a problem. A pure World bulletin would be better during WN peak times like during the afternoon in the UK and UK-World hybrid would be better during the 9am and 10 am hours and prime time in the UK.
