Indeed it was, B malfunctioned

Which begs the question - when E is put out of use for a refit where do they go if the gremlins hit again? Virtual Studio A?
Aside from how to handle the London opt I'd imagine D can more than easily handle the One. The Six and Ten are more likely to have correspondents in the studio doing more complex packages.

I like the sound of Verified Live and The Daily Global, not sure about BBC News Now

RE: BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One) - DTV - 17-05-2023

I can't really say I'm that enthused about this - sure, new branding and whatever, but I don't really see the purpose of having a schedule that is nearly all 'branded', especially when, as Live, Impact and Global demonstrated in their dying days, there wasn't really a lot of difference between them. Maybe they'll have greater differences between them this time, but that does seem to go a bit against the 'back to basics' turn of the new channel.

I also wonder if they'll manage to hit that sweet spot of 'different enough to justify the branding' and 'not different enough to mean you go hours without the basics'. Personally, I felt the right balance between 'branded' and 'normal' news programming was struck during the WNT-era, and to a lesser extent during the first few years of the 'colourful' branded programmes. Back then they were spaced out fairly evenly, had their own purposes and supplemented the generic programming that filled out the rest of the schedule.

Clogging up the whole schedule makes it more difficult - with Verified Live, for instance, is that going to be a three-hour block largely focussed on verifying stories? Because that as an hour-long programme or a segment might be useful, but taking up a large chunk of the schedule focussed entirely on that means you go hours without basic news. But then if it doesn't primarily focus on that, then the branding is unnecessary and detracts from the main content of the programme.

I noticed the light box behind Matthew in a pinky purple! Is this linked to Verified Live...  [Image: Screenshot%202023-05-17%20at%2010_56_16.png]

Sorry if this has been discussed already, I'm not monitoring this thread as much as I was.
What is the point in Nicky Campbell's phone-in going out on the UK feed, when they so often need to cut away for breaking or developing news? 9 - 11am is a busy time in the UK news day for developing political and agenda setting stories, shown by how often they need to cut away from the phone-in to cover these stories. We're going to be seeing a lot more of this over the next 12 - 18 months depending on when the UK general election is. Yet someone came up with the novel idea to broadcast a radio phone-in on a TV news channel during this time?
Why not make the 9am - 12pm slot UK leaning, presented by one of the previous NC presenters who have disappeared off our screens since 2 April?

I didn't realise this until recently, but now on Wednesdays, UK viewers actually don't get to see any actual news coverage from the new channel until 2pm!
There's simulcasting that's adds value, and then there's simulcasting just for the sake of simulcasting, which is what happens on Wednesday mornings when there's no breaking or developing news.
Politics Live is just opinionated politicians and journalists arguing with each other, yet because of PMQs, someone has judged this to be valuable content that should replace actual news coverage for UK viewers on Wednesdays?

I guess Verified Live is made by the new BBC Verify team…

Let’s hope for sexy theme tunes and titles and see studio C multicoloured as I’ve definitely missed that.

I imagine the short answer is along the lines of there being a quote for 'UK opt-out hours'. The simulcasts of Nicky Campbell and Wednesday's Politics Live presumably count towards this.

Say, the blue globe looks more interesting than their holding division’s  Big Grin

Hope this will unite their Reality Check brand of stories - the name just doesn’t age well.
