I did wonder earlier about their air of temporary-ness - the lack of studio graphics in particular made me wonder if they decided that making them for a screen arrangement that isn't going to be around for long was a bit pointless. But given how long some of the set installations have taken, particularly the network ones, it doesn't seem likely that a new set in Studio E would appear until near the end of the year at the earliest - that just seems a long time to be in a temporary state. If a full reveal wasn't planned until then, why not wait until then? It's hardly like there's been some great demand for this, nor is there anything that this change has offered that couldn't have waited.

It feels like virtually every change at BBC News since the move to NBH has had a whiff of temporaryness about them - always one or two elements changes in advance of something else expected to change a bit further down the line.    Maybe it was expectation rather than reality but even think when the NBH studios launched there was the feeling the continued use of the (amended) Lambie Nairn globe was ony until a new graphics package was ready.    We just didn't know that would be another 11 years or more.

Why didn't they just update and change the name of the existing intros and reused or updated the existing soundtrack? The previous ones were much more memorable than the new ones, i.e. Impact and LWLH. And the use of one single shot makes the presentation more boring and less dynamic that it was. It's quite inconsistent because their washington studio shows different shots like they used to do in their london studios. Now the titles have gone to amateurish and the same music gets played on the new branded programmes. I really wonder what's in their mind. Their presentations were really good before and sadly the change made me feel really disappointed. And problems have recently gone up with a lot of graphics issues. And they should bring back the two line text strip.

Presumably it's because using the close up shot of the presenter is the only way you can frame them without making it very obvious they're scrolling Autocue themselves using the controller on the desk.

And the presenter having to scroll it themselves means they're glued to the desk, so no catwalks etc.

For WBR does the main presenter scroll Autocue for the business presenter? Or do they have an Autocue operator?

Wow. Well having viewed the 3 launched programmes and read thru the posts. The response isnt good. I dont want beat up on the BBC. We all know they are in a budget crunch. We all know they do very good journalism. Unfortunately where is all falls apart is presenting that journalism for 2023. Sadly NewsNow, Verified Live, Daily Global aint it.

I hesitate to keep holding up CNN News Central as model for whats new and fresh, but frankly it has exceeded my expectations when it was announced. I thought it was going to be silly and gimmicky. And it turned out to be anything but.
These 3 new BBC News programmes have been utter disappointments to say the least. Verified Live is probably the most disappointing  of the three. I get where they were going with it. But its just a really confusing brand and the way its implemented. (It seems like it was a way to keep Ros Atkins on staff since his programme was cancelled.  Just a thought.) When I hear BBC Verify attached to report or a programmme, I think....is everything else UNVERIFIED? Which i know is not that case, but i just dont like the name. Maybe BBC Verify is not the best name. (I like the idea of it. It could be just the branding thats not working for me personally.)
But the Verified Live programme is a confusing mess. Same BBC theme, boring opening graphic, studio looks the same with BBC News Branding. It seems as thought they are trying to present a  "Live Stream" type of program. Showcasing breaking news and fresh incoming images and video  and then adding a single "BBC Verified" segment.

I watched the Matthew Amroliwala broadcast and I was less than impressed with it. Not to beat up on Mr Amroliwala , he is a fine journalist and broadcaster of course. So long as there is a autoscript available. If its unscripted breaking news you start getting the.hesitating,pauses.with.the.starts.and.stops.and.the frequent."indeed".used.every.other.word.

Sadly the BBC Verified segments are fine in their content, but I agree they arent presented very well. At all. The presentation space is just not good. Especially if this is supposed to be a premiere brand. The bad lighting, the 3 vertical screens on rolling carts and the fact it was recorded. Not good

Solution: Get Mr Amroliwala out of the set, have him present the newscast from a podium from the centre of the newsroom with all the noise and movement and cacophony of the BBC Newsroom. Instead having him strapped to the desk. He can walk to screens around the newsroom and even talk to correspondents in the newsroom. Then when they present a BBC Verify segment it should be presented live. Especially since the programme is called Verified LIVE....but it was recorded.

I dont understand why they cant create actual presentation areas for these segments. Some time and energy should be spent creating these broadcast ready locations. Instead of seemingly throwing up some screens on rolling carts and a locked down camera with badly placed lighting. Little effort on the presentation front for the premiere journalism of BBC News is not a good look. It needs to be presented better.

Sorry to rant a bit. But Im really frustrated with the merged BBC News channel.

And they said 1000 times "BBC Verify" over and over, like it was a big deal and it was just the one segment. That was confusing especially since the programme itself is called Verified LIVE.

Thanks for these.   Agree really not good practice to launch two new strands with the substitute hosts.  

The titles, if you can call them that, are slightly better for Verified Live and The Daily Global (which does sound like a spoof programme) but nothing spectacular.

Wow! When BBC World (NEWS) had branded programmes they had different tones of music and graphical looks this is just kind of sad. It's the basic music with slightly intros. I don't like how that one says BBC , NEWS NOW, NEWS. They should have reused some music from the former shows like Impact, Global, Lucy Hokins ,Live... etc. or something.

I'm not sure I'd go back as far 2013, as I don't think that keeping the 2008 globe was regarded as particularly temporary when they moved to NBH - in many respects it was the intended look of BBC News from NBH as most of the 2008 rebrand was regarded as an interim ahead of the then two-years away move.

But aside from that, I'd agree that there does seem to be an almost Trigger's Broomstick attitude to rebranding in recent years - though how much of this is down to a considered gradualism and how much is due to a combination of on the hoof changes in direction (as is very apparent in the Reith rollout) and a lack of resources is difficult to work out. The problem though now is that, even if the end rebrand is superb, it don't think there is a level of brilliance that can take away the mess that the journey to get to it has been.

And to be honest, that was the ugliest version of Impact and by that stage all the shows suffered from a samey rundown and format, not to mention revolting in house backdrop. 

I get money is tight but this is bleak stuff. Should have never gone to air. What’s the point of even having a creative director?

It does feel like Chameleon was designed to tidy up all those elements of BBC branding that had gone a bit rogue over the years yet has had the opposite effect on BBC News - they're going with less coherent branding than ever really, graphics wise at least. This is where one overarching revamp would help - even between the three shows launched today there doesn't seem to be any attempt to have them somewhat connected to each other.
