I don't think the pause is that big an issue to be honest. I'd much rather have it and have the local presenters pick up directly from the national pres.

It's about good presentation - something lacking a bit at BBC News in recent years.   And the sequence should be planned on everything going right rather than the possibility a region fails to opt out.   If BBC London is the sustaining feed it's not like the presenter doesn't start the London bulletin until a region that fails to opt out sorts itself out.

Now they have the brief ad break it's no longer a factor but ITV London just using the ITV News endcap between the end of their bulletin and the start of the Evening News made all the difference into switching from one to the other without a harsh cut.

I'm not sure if the start of the 9am hour went out on the World feed but in the UK, it was a complete mess.

A sting played straight out of the countdown, no top of hour sequence to contextualise anything.

The presenter then welcomed us to 'Westminister' followed by 3 minutes of microphone and sound issues.

By that point, I switched over to Sky News.

Some audio issues during the 0900 BBC News opening from Westminster -- resulting in a fluffy boom mic being thrust prominently into vision, twice; and a crew member making a brief cameo, before disappearing behind the lower-thirds. 😄

Yes the presenter handled it pretty well but its yet more sloppy technical standards making it to air.

Did they not do a sound check with the gallery before going on air and identify the issue then?

The dog rolling around on the grass in the background while this is all going on is amusing though.

I have to disagree. 

What is the point in having two correspondents in the Newsroom? This coverage isn't energetic, it's diabolical. Sky News had their Pol Ed in the studio at Westminster and an array of top guests ready to go. The BBC have a relatively unknown presenter on College Green with awful sound and camera set up. I noted the presenters choice of outfit blending with the scorched yellow grass in the background. 

It's another example of how the BBC have cut back so so much (yes, because it felt the NC should go before any other channel) that they just can't afford to run a UK service fit for purpose!

Where are the senior BBC correspondents on this story - Nick Eardley, Vicky Young, Chris Mason etc... 

They've just shown a page from their website with Chris Mason's notes. What is this?

On another note - I hope Ian Blackford is issued with an apology for his suspension!

Well when you seemingly have existing technical and gallery staff leaving and new staff being trained by other relatively new staff, these types of issues are bound to happen.

Presenter wise, nothing wrong with Nancy but its a day when I would've loved to have seen Shaun Ley presenting from College Green.

Oh nothing against Nancy at all. Your point being my point exactly. I do wonder whether contract issues prevent senior people from appearing on the UK feed.

Meanwhile over on Sky, it was wonderful to see Burley and Rigby reunited for such a story.
