It is a genuinely confusing move. If he's replacing Yalda then are they booting Maryam Moshiri out of the slot? Will he become the roving presenter doing Moshiri's old role? Not sure where else he would fit - unless he gets a permanent role in a different slot.

But in all of these circumstances, I don't see what he brings over one of 'the five'. Unless it's just not true, which is possible.

But, all that aside, what to we think about him coming back given he presented on GB News? Is that bad for impartiality? Would it taint his image with viewers?

I would imagine that if this report are correct, then he'd be back filling Maryam's role as roving presenter, as didn't they confirm she was taking over the Daily Global when they announced Yalda's exit 

I don't think presenting on GB News will taint Simon too much given he was gone within 6 months of it launching

Correct re Maryam the Daily Global.

Interesting to see we maybe getting Simon McCoy back-If that's the case and if that report is correct, surely there cannot be an issue with getting the 5 benched presenters back.

It’s a joke but you know what I mean something is always gonna go wrong with this channel and when it happens it goes out globally and there seems to be too many which is not great considering the reach of this channel, it’s gone from very decent to very poor channel in 6 months.

I think it’s worser on the Uk feed as I think the countdown originates from one of the gallery’s in NBH(the old pre-merger setup) and if anything goes wrong there they put the presenters to air whilst they are still getting ready whilst that wouldn’t have appeared on the global feed where the countdown is played from Red Bee.(ALV could you post one of your delightful sync clips to prove I’m not talking rubbish here)

Baffling, just baffling, given the current situation.   If it was for a new UK focused daytime slot I'd understand it given his experience, but for an evening global focused slot it doesn't seem the right fit, regardless of who might be on the sidelines.

I agree I don't think he is right for the evening slot. Maybe they got that detail wrong and he will take a day slot with someone else moving to the evening slot.

Apart from that I think its good he will be back.

I suspect it’s more the Mail hearing/seeing something and blowing it out of proportion. It’s all based on Simon posting a photo of him standing in a BBC studio on Facebook - could very well be a photo taken before he left or he was back visiting it recording a contributor piece based on a previous story.
The whole situation about the 5 seems odd…. The amount of relief presenters we see each week there is obviously space for them so it’s more complex to do with terms and conditions

...I don't know man, Simon McCoy has been very vocal about the state of the BBC ever since he left. I'm not so sure if the BBC will be willing to hire a public figure again who've been critical at them... (I'm NOT implying his criticisms are not justified)

Of course, there have been plenty of existing BBC staff who also criticize their own organization at times in a public capacity. But, they've been hired at that point, so they're entitled to their freedom of speech and job protection to a certain extent.
