That was just my personal opinion and for me I find Mishal far more engaging to watch.   I've just never really rated Sophie personally outside of the Royal stuff though I have warmed to her a bit more over the last couple of years and it was surprising to me at least how well the Sunday morning format actually suited her.


As for the next general election - it's easy to forget Fiona Bruce is still part of BBC News with her newsreading role somewhat secondary to her other gigs, but might she be the forgotten but actually obvious candidate to lead election coverage moving forward in the short term at least considering she's already stepped into one pair of Dimbleby's shoes and is perhaps a safer pair of hands for a complex multi-hour live broadcast than some of the other candidates.

No real problem with Raworth but I do think the national bulletin presenters are lacking a bit of the grit that comes from reporting out in the field. Only really Myrie that fits that bill. It’s just a personal preference I suppose but I’ve always liked a newsreader who isn’t polished but makes you feel they’ve been there and done that. 

Agree with the other comment that Raworth was good on her brief Sunday morning stint. If Kuenssberg were to leave I think she’d fit straight in on the current format.

I'm not so sure about this. She might present Question Time, so has some politics specialism, but I don't think she really has any multi-hour developing news experience (I don't think she ever presented News 24/News channel). I think there are arguments for several of the network team - in terms of seniority, it's Raworth; that formal but genial style of Edwards and Dimbleby, Myrie; for rolling news experience, it's Hill; Chakrabarti started off as a politics reporter, as per Dimbleby and Edwards; and Husain has both multi-hour and interviewing experience.

However, judging by the local elections, they're clearly going to go down the Kuennsberg route, which I'm sure will go down especially well (particularly given the likely outcome).

These Boots Are Made For Walking?? No idea about the boots, but I have to say this is one of the most bizarre and cringeworthy things I have ever seen. Utterly self-indulgent, and I wonder who allowed it to happen. I’m sort of surprised it didn’t go viral but the (now ex) presenter isn’t high profile enough. 

Only the most ancient forumers will know what I mean, but this moment of the presenter going rogue reminds me of the often-shown clip of Hughie Green and his ‘stand up and be counted’ derangements on ITV in the late 1970s.

It was probably quite unfortunate she followed Clive Myrie in the role presenting on location but the difference between them was very stark at the beginning of the Ukraine war. As you say though not every presenter will come in via a war zone and just as that played to Clive's strengths and elevated his status there will be stories that play to Reeta's strength in time too.

On the same basis the small part of the lead up to the queens death that Clive Myrie presented was such a car crash that Huw Edwards was rushed back on air midway through the hour even though no developments were imminently expected.
Assuming that Huw will not be returning Mishal, Sophie and Jane are by far the strongest presenters at the BBC for studio based open ended coverage of unexpected breaking news or where new information is coming through whilst on air requiring an immediate reaction.
Clive and Reeta are both be competent bulletin newsreaders but seem to be a lot more comfortable where the agenda is fixed before they come on air and where they are in more control of the story.
