On average, the One and Six are about 80% UK news, while the Ten is closer to two-thirds UK news. But running orders are typically broadly similar and have been for a long time. Up until the mid-2000s there was a bit more variation, with the Six and Ten even having their own correspondents and occasional exclusive 'special reports'. During the 1990s and early-00s, the One was also a bit different format-wise (quite similar to the NC), including DtL and studio interviews with non-correspondents. 

Ultimately, though, the fact that it's news from one organisation means there has always been overlap, budget cuts since the mid-2000s have only made differentiation harder and led to even more resource sharing. Plus, as Brekkie says, I don't think there is an expectation that people watch multiple bulletins a day.

I know there is to be no rota talk, and this didn’t techincsllu it was just the discussion got ne wondering if it’s available who is employed to do what.

I was going through the annual report for 2022/23 and under the pay disclosures it lists what bulletin they are contracted for and the number of presenting days. Two presenters working 180 presenting days would cover near enough a whole years worth say the need at 6. 

What was interesting was Huw, Sophia and George were all listed as 180 presenter days but only for the news at six and news at ten.  Clive is listed as 135 days and international deployment. When Clive’s days are added to the 25 days (plus 40 for Question time) Fiona is listed for  and Mishal Husain’s at 20 days (plus radio). You make another 180. That’s would cover the 6 and 10 every day for a year except for 5 days. 

 Interestingly Rita was the only person listed for news at one, six and ten as well as local deployment.  That’s obviously due to the news at one having been produced by the news channel pre merge. 

Whilst that annuals report won’t take into account news channel changes, we know that Ben and Jane were moved across to present on bbc one. This would take into account bbc news at one bulletins no longer being produced by the news channel. 

However, with George sadly passing and Huw’s absence they are technically a whole presenting team down. In affect it’s as if they’ve taken back the bbc news at one bulletin’s but not increases the number of presenters. It’s probably why there have been some unexpected presenters. 

I think it’s safe to presume the plan would have to made a return to people who regularly present certain bulletins and to have Rita, Tina and Victoria (who are all listed for bbc one news) filling in as and when needed

Also thought it was interesting to see Mishal Husain is only 5 days less than Fiona.

Extended theme used during trundle cam opening for bulletins coming from E still being used after all these weeks when the main presenter is away from the studio so the globe sequence animation completes too early whilst the theme catches up, just looks a bit shoddy. Surely it's just a case of dropping the shorter sequence into the gallery in E to use in those instances?
BTW sorry if I've got any of the terminology wrong here, I'm a long time lurker, a rare poster!

The trundle cam can only be controlled by Studio E’s gallery, yes. So they could record a new, better-timed version of the trundle using E some time, then re-edit the rest of the opening to match better. Or, like you say, drop in the shorter template from another gallery and add the trundle cam. But that’s attention to detail which is sorely lacking at BBC News these days. Pretty much everything is left as-is. Even after literally years, the newsroom hoop hasn’t been repaired, for example.

Also, regarding the “number of days each presenter appears” details, don’t forgot that two presenters will be doing one bulletin in situations where there is an anchor on location (so that doubling up uses two “days”) and also, for full-time BBC staff, presumably sick days come out of the number of days too. So presenter x can be down to appear at Six next Tuesday, but they call in ill - you will need to get cover from someone else, obviously, but presenter x would still have “done one day” (presumably, as they would have been paid).

I say all that to point out that you do need more days available than the bare maths would allow!

Also, as far as I know, Reeta did also move across to the BBC One team officially, along with Ben and Jane - so they are three presenters up on before, even though all three did regularly appear before as well. Victoria seems to be regarded as a senior UK presenter, so appears on BBC One as relief alongside her work on Newsnight and podcasts.

All are perfectly capable of presenting any of the BBC One bulletins in my view, so no need for a fixed team. The idea that each bulletin is actually just “the news” is probably how the BBC like it, as it means that viewers can identify with the BBC News brand as a whole rather than particular output.

I don’t see why they can’t use the shorter titles when on location even if they do come from E. I remember a couple of Saturday night bulletins back in the summer when they accidentally played the shorter titles with both the trundle shot and pan across the studio, I remember because it looked an absolute mess.

Audience figures haven't cropped up in a while, so I thought I'd look at how things were going. Surprised it wasn't mentioned that Sky's audience share in September was 86% of BBC News', which I believe must be Sky's best relative performance since a brief relative surge during the Brexit referendum campaign. Nonetheless, it appears to have been a bit of a blip - although October has seen a boost for both news channels, the year-on-year performance for both is near identical (BBC / Sky):

Reach: -20% / -18%
Share: -24% / -24%
Average Minutes: -26% / -26%

Things are a bit better relatively for Sky looking across the whole period since the merger (and the same period the previous year), but the decline is still apparent across both. Basically, fewer people are watching less of both news channels, but are relatively sticking with Sky a little longer.

Reach: -20% / -16%
Share: -32% / -22%
Average Minutes: -34% / -24%

While this is obviously against a backdrop of wider decline in TV viewing, average minutes for all channels is actually down only 2% year-on-year, so it's clearly a localised decline for news channels. A large chunk of this is arguably reversion to the mean - Covid and Ukraine were both a real boost for both channels and the share figures for both channels would be typical for 2019 and before. Ultimately, though, it would seem that, while the merger has cost the BBC a bit of relative ground, it's audience hasn't really fallen by much more than it would have anyway.

BBC World News global viewing figures aren't available outside of the BBC Global Audience Measure, which is only released in brief summary form once a year. That said, I would be surprised if it was up considering that the BBC World News audience has shrunk slightly in the last few years (again, in the context of a wider decline in news reach).

Sorry to return the discourse to this but I wouldn't say the Nine / Ten was exclusively 'international' per se but one would suspect over time it had become the television equivalent of Radio 4's The World Tonight. Becoming the "main flagship" bulletin that took advantage of the 'digest' sort of format for a news bulletin where is you wanted a more rounded bulletin it was the appointment to view, BBC One 9pm or 10pm Monday through Friday.

Incidentally, one thing that didn't help was in 1999 the location tags in the titles being the same for the 1 O'Clock News & 6 O'Clock News:
