Not being facetious, I just think sometimes we think we need something that we don’t actually need or would use.

They didn't broadcast at any point the red weather warning. Granted it was around an hour prior to it being triggered but those alerts should trigger at least a website weather update at the very least.

Basically they always end the Ten during these events with stay tuned, but the reality is you won't get a further update until breakfast.

There's a forecast after Newsnight on BBC Two and an extended forecast on BBC One just before the handover to the News channel. You can also access the BBC Weather website and app through the night. Most TV viewers are also in bed between the end of the Ten and start of Breakfast. There just isn't the demand for more television weather forecasts through the night - the reach for the weather forecast at the end of the News at Ten is roughly 100x greater than that of the 23:57 forecast on the News channel.

Found it amusing how the news channel stuck with the international feed instead of taking the One today, so they can show the Oscars nominations.

Sign language on screen 1-1.30. They signed all of the build-up. Soon as the nominations start - sign language disappears. I get they sign that specific half hour, but it strikes me as poor judgment to not continue the signing through to the end of what they’re showing.

Sign language service is appalling. The News at One should always be signed so if NC wants to continue with other things the SL should move to either red button or the NC to red button /iplayer in order for News at One so be signed.

Surely there could be a fully signed BBC One on iPlayer?

…..and simulcast onto ….play via hbbtv
But there is neither the money (even in a properly funded BBC). Or the regulatory push …..
OFCOM has not even said that the BBC should do say 10% The existing 5% emitted and then 5% on IPlayer .
But the various user groups would not like that …Wanting 10% emitted ….. as that is more visible ….
( and remember the row over CBBC Makaton..The BBC and other PSB doing their own thing outside quotas)

Both recorded before the 10pm weather, so essentially the final live broadcast is over. Don't tell people to stay tuned if they aren't going to update, I understand 99% of the time there is no need for a live forecast but when a red danger to life warning is valid, you would think it would trigger one!

Interestingly, tonight’s coverage of the New Hampshire primaries features a panel (as has become something of a feature du jour for Washington hours these days) which includes Katty Kay.

Katty was introduced being credited as "US Special Correspondent for BBC Studios & Host of Influential with Katty Kay", so I suspect we will continue to see more of her for big occasions.

A bit of an odd arrangement, commercially, though. Presumably BBC News pay out of their budget to BBC Studios for the services of their employee, and BBC Studios then pay Katty directly. So, technically, Katty isn’t part of BBC News even though she appears as a quasi-presenter.

Would Katty not be appearing free of charge to BBC News is a supposed advertising effort for BBC Studios in the way that various newspaper reporters appear on the various paper reviews rather than as a paid for appear?
If she was to present a programme that would have to be a paid for appearance but simply appearing as a panelist (in a place that would typically be filled by a non-BBC voice) is surely more along the lines of an external contributor than a BBC employee.

With Look East beginning its stint in a temporary set tonight, which other English regions are left to get the LED set besides Salford?
