Honestly really like the new breakfiller music. I have happened to notice they have somewhat implemented elements from 1999 and 2004 and incorporated them into the music, making for quite a nice and slick theme.

It's a nice music mix, and certainly happy to hear some of the more interesting synth elements returning after the boring orchestral sounds of recently.

But I think it's way too aggressive for a breakfiller. Probably shouldn't have the pips either.

Although I do think that the current coundowns are far too high energy as well - the way it used to work was that they built up, but the climax was more the start of the headlines, rather than them feeling like they're a step down in energy from what preceded them.

Of course, the gold standard for breakfillers is the original 1999 package, where even when the pips came in, it was in a more sedate "echoes" ivocation of the main news theme, rather than basically the same thing again.

Speaking of all of this breakfiller talk, I might be misremembering things, but last summer there was a breakfiller-type situation on the World feed, showing economic figures. Did that actually happen or was that just part of a program I mistook, as I thought they were gonna go more for that style (a bespoke template that's not too repetitive)? Thanks a lot!

I vaguely remember it being discussed at the time. Nice music and graphics. Not sure if it still airs on the global feed. If it does, I really hope they leave the text on screen for a bit longer so viewers can read it!

I think overall the new breakfiller is a significant improvement on the previous 'Around the UK' segment. Namely it gives multiple UK related headlines, rather than one seemingly random regional report. They've evidently found a way to automate it, rather than requiring a reporter to record a clip of them reading these headlines.

Watching this morning at 9am I'm wondering if there's also been a shift in news coverage towards UK viewers. In the first half hour we've had two UK related news headlines, with the photo of Kate and the River Wye pollution. I doubt the latter would have much interest to oversea viewers, beyond the more general environmental issue.

Maybe someone has finally realised that mornings have fewer people watching overseas. UK viewers may also be slightly higher due to the simulcast on BBC Two.

I'm yet to see it within the context of a bulletin but whilst I'm a fan of such things for filling downtime it's a sad state of affairs that UK news is now reduced to a still picture and a couple of sentences during the breaks in international feeds. Surely also an accessibility issue if the reports are not voiced.

The more I’ve watched since the new break filler has been launched I think I’d prefer the music in this video than the countdown music. Countdown music should stick to TOTH only imo.

This. Pips should be on the top of the hour only, that’s the whole point of them! And gratuitous use of them just means they’re no longer attention grabbing.
