'BREAKING' graphics in studio:

And of course, the breaking news lower thirds used on the all-new BBC Breakfast aren't in the new style recently introduced on the BBC News channel; but rather, the old design, with two lines of text, small flashing 'BREAKING' bug, and the former, less garish shade of red.

Figures.

The Salford graphics system hasn’t been updated thankfully with the horrible updates from NBH, it all adds to the inconsistency however, I know BBC News are too big but really needs a design agency to have a proper look at all the design output of bbc news.

I might be wrong, but isn't that the old Breaking News graphic on the Monolith too?

The new one has the red/coloured bars sliding up and down, not side to side.

The updated one can be seen at the beginning of this video:

Either way it's pretty hideous and doesn't fit into the look of BBC Breakfast.

You’re sort of right, it’s correct on the monolith, it does the left to right movement on those, while the catwalk screen has the bottom to top like the full screen graphic.

Oh absolutely. What news desperately needs is a wholesale, thorough revamp across all of its outlets as in 2008, designed by a reputable external agency who actually have a clue about what they’re doing – not the internal graphics team who need to stick to doing graphs of interest rates.

Sadly I suspect the chances of that happening at the moment, given the financial pressures in news, are low to zero. But then if they can justify a multi-million pound revamp of Studio B, and whatever the Breakfast/Sport studio cost, despite the de facto closure of the domestic news channel, maybe it’s not totally out of the question.

There are other large news organisations around the world (CNN, AJE, even Fox etc) who manage to have a consistent pres.

The problem here is that there are so many 'fingers in the pie' that there is nothing left of the pie that you would ever really want to eat. Dodgy

It's just seems like a mangled mess of "this is what I did today, do you like it?"

Well, CNN and Fox are not great examples of constitent presentation. Every programme does their own thing and their own music. The only "standard" are the on-screen graphics. Not even the new CNN on-air logo is consistent with the rest of the pres.

Like it was said, BBC needs to contact an external agency to do a rebrand. I don`t understand why BBC One and Two -and even BBC Sport- have had this kind of effort, but BBC News didn`t.
