These things are all on a server and likely have similar names (judging by the Hurriance Maria story, this edition likely also originally aired on 22nd September (2017)). I suspect we've all accidentally opened up the wrong similarly name file from time-to-time.

Airing the entirely wrong edition of a programme on a television channel, never mind the BBC, is not a common mistake though.

It happens of course, but this just shows yet again that when you remove the people the management believe jobs were surplus to requirements you find out exactly what they were doing to hold the company together once they're gone.

If it was the previous week's edition played by mistake it would make more sense than one from 6 years ago, I'm suprised one from that long ago is even still easily accessible on the playout system.

Not really, depends on how they're listed in the system. If you're searching for Newswatch_22_09_20..., it's more likely to get an edition from 2017 than last week. Like you, the producer might have assumed that older versions would be archived, so would think nothing of selecting the first 22nd September edition that popped up. There's also a chance that yesterday's edition might have been incorrectly labelled, so that was the only 22nd September edition that was on the system.

In fairness, seeing clips of Huw on a show covering the previous week of news coverage was probably how the error got spotted. Had he not featured in any of the clips then the full edition might've gone out!

I'll be very interested to see if this error gets a mention in next week's Newswatch...
