Yes. BBC Three's last idents before it originally closed only lasted a month. CBBC's rebranding would last a couple of years.

Wow, nobody liked the logo at the time.   Big Grin

It did feel like the hate was due to it being a static logo, without seeing the resultant ident package, as the idents are very colourful and there is a lot of movement. I think that the abstract C icon is one of the stronger idents that CBBC used, though not a patch on the 2002 Channel package, or the 1991-1997 idents. It is a strong 3rd place, in my opinion

Now seems as good a time as any to bring up these tweets from Tom Harwood:

I agree with him, FWIW. Wonder if he posts here? Wink

I quite like the new CBBC logo, it's a simple but effective design that I think will work well on screen, particularly as I've never liked the current one which is a very busy design that only really works when animated.

A new CBeebies logo seems unnecessary but I suppose it's to keep it consistent with everything else.

Whenever I'm reminded of the 1997 logo, I just think it looks a little bit unbalanced with the small C on its own. I see what they were doing, but always felt it would look a bit better if they had put it in a hollow box a bit like this...

...It would've been a little off-standard, but would just be a bit more balanced and incidentally look a bit like a child's letter block.

I think that would have gone against the brand guidelines - which, as you'll know, were very strict. AFAIK anything that disrupted the three horizontal block structure in any way was strictly verboten.

Well certainly, but I think that's the problem with not having any leeway whatsoever in these kinds of things (that's how you end up with things like the current BBC Naidheachdan boxed logo). Plus, even putting the C ahead of the blocks itself was arguably non-standard. Though I'm broadly a big fan of that 1997 rebrand, the CBBC logo just always looked a bit unsatisfactory - the C on its own just doesn't sit right, particularly as it's in the standard Gill Sans weight rather than the slightly adjusted and heavier one in the BBC logo. It also never looked great when they sandwiched the BBC logo for CBBC One, etc. I feel that that was the one place where they should've allowed themselves to bend the rules slightly, especially as exact uniformity matters a bit less with the Children's brand.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - Milkshake - 03-03-2023

Is there any news on when the two kids channel will get their new branding.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - JAS84 - 03-03-2023

No, it hasn't even been officially announced. We found out about it accidentally from the test version of the website.
