RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - JAS84 - 08-03-2023

The BBC need to rethink how their weather app works. This morning I looked out of my window and saw that it was snowing. The app reckoned it was "sunny intervals and light winds"- could it be any more wrong?

Ah you need to play BBC Weather app roulette. Restart the app 3 times and then take the average prediction to find out your local weather!

Just get the Met Office's one as well and take an inbetween guess from the two sets of data (Met Office and MeteoGroup for BBC).

Plus if you are on Android, get this one. I swear by it. I have checked for other availability on other platforms and it it available for Apple, Microsoft and as a progressive web app.

APPLE: Weather Station by Dromosys
ANDRIOD: Weather Station by Dromosys
MICROSOFT: Dromosys Weather
PWA: Weather Station

The BBC website itself can be good for that, the hourly forecast can often contradict the map below.

(Kudos to my girlfriend for agreeing to take this photo while I was driving - "Where are you going to put these?!" Big Grin)

Oh, wow! The spacing is a bit wrong though.

On Behance, I found a video which goes through the process of the sonic brand of the BBC.
Here is a 6 minute long video of Matthew Wilcock, the co founder of Zelig, who talks about the process behind it.

I will never understand how you find these things, but I don't care, this is awesome.

I do wish they'd update the signage on their flagship HQ!

Think that's the least of their problems at the moment.

Fascinating video. I have to say I preferred some of the other options. This one seems too similar to others out there. I know they’d probably classed as old fashioned but even now when i hear the 1990 and the 1997 ribbons video idents i immediately know it’s the bbc. It was different to everything else at the time. I guess whatvyou get used to
