EastEnders being the show that kept using the old logo for another 3 months in 1997 when the change was virtually instant elsewhere on the BBC- so they have form for being slow to update!

3 months and 3 years is a bit different though.

I dont get why some shows have the new logo and others don't is it down to budgets? though I was shocked that Gladiators had the old logo, new shows to the BBC should have them with out any question?!

As for Eastenders it must be due a rework of the titles, London must of changed by now, but you know they like to drag storylines out, maybe the "6" were so go as concreteing a cafe floor in the dark, they will knock up the new logo for Eastenders birthday as thats next month?! haha

Though as I said, the logo changeover in 1997 was pretty much overnight, so even if it was only 3 months, it did stand out (I think EastEnders was the only show actually produced after the logo change to still have the old logo on, the other handful of shows that premiered with it after October 4th were made earlier in the year). Whereas now, there's so many shows still using the old logo that it doesn't stick out as much.

Long overdue, the imagery they use is from all over the shop but the Greenwich peninsula in particular dates from the year 2000/2001 and is very different now, it's also the part of the map you see in the greatest detail as the titles start there. It was actually out of date when it launched.

As has been mentioned before, it doesn’t help that the BBC’s website of credit rules features the old logo ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/delivery/credits-branding-trademarks/  )
Based on that the independent companies are doing the right thing by using the old logo.

Maybe we should have a whip around or increase the license fee by a further penny to pay for positions to be brand angels, replacing the old ones on programmes and updating policies.

Well, there we go - that's your answer then! After 62 pages of comments, maybe we should close this thread? Big Grin

Not in NI Big Grin
You'd think that NI has the same branding as other regions, but nope. Sunday Politics is alive and well in NI, even after 2020.

Well that explains a lot, they're only doing what they're told...despite being outdated. Sounds like someone needs to crack their knuckles and get tweaking.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - VMPhil - 15-01-2024

Over Christmas there was a programme on BBC Two called Lives Well Lived which was sort of like a end-of-year TV version of Last Word. It was a very interesting programme, not only for the lives of the people featured, but also because the links with Kirsty Wark were shot in the National Portrait Gallery, the programme was shot in 50i which is unusual for a factual programme these days, and it also featured an absolutely classic 1997 style endboard. You don't see many of these anymore...

Yes it's completely out of date, but look how beautiful it is!
