I think we can safely say that Belfast always like doing things in their own, slightly outdated and confusing way. See the length of time for them to adopt the Reith typeface, how it was implemented and also DOGs on their news broadcasts long after they ceased to be a thing across the English regions.

I'm not sure I'd agree that BBC NI are always outdated. Their response to network's rubbish red curtain pres was excellent

But then BBC Northern Ireland programmes have had the new Chameleon BBC logo on all endboards for a year now, while network programmes remain inconsistent and BBC Scotland hasn't used the new logo at all on endboards.

And BBC Newsline was the first to have the new set design, and new Chameleon blocked titles.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - gav - 02-02-2024

The new series of The Apprentice ended with the old BBC logo on its endboard last night. I don't think this is ever going to end.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - interestednovice - 02-02-2024

Well it has to end sometime, otherwise the stated objective of the Reith rebrand in the first place will have failed!

They were going to be able to not need to pay font licensing costs once they had moved exclusively to their own font, remember!

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - Brekkie - 02-02-2024

Why are they letting it drag on so long then if that's the motivation? Is there anyone actually managing this rebrand - it's like someone emailed the logo over and left them to it.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - Reith85 - 03-02-2024

EastEnders continuing to use the Gill Sans blocks is a pretty big oversight on their part. I know it's no longer a huge big hitter of the BBC's (although it has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance over the last year or so under Chris Clenshaw), but you'd think they'd update the BBC blocks on such a prolific programme sooner rather than later. If they can use the updated blocks on Casualty, why not EastEnders?

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - Brekkie - 03-02-2024

It's the equivalent now of the slanted 90's logo still being used on new programming in 2000.

RE: The BBC Chameleon Thread - RDJ - 03-02-2024

Last time it took EastEnders 3 months to update the titles with the new BBC logo, premiering on New Years Day 1998. Presumably it was so the new MCMXCVIII end board could just go live for the New Year.

We're now over 2 years in since the Chameleon rebrand and we're still using the old logo. I had a feeling the delay may had been because EastEnders is due new titles due to the current ones now approaching 15 years old, but alas this has not been the case.
