I haven't watched any shopping channels for a long time. There was a video game based shopping channel whose name I can't remember that I would watch for PS1 accessories. But the analysis that they are declining is a correct one and I think Amazon etc are to blame.

Had the winding up petition from Thane been posted anywhere prior to it appearing in that report?

What is Thane’s involvement with Ideal World?

Supplier. Possibly drop shipper?

Well according to the Thane website. There is this little tidbit in the About Us section

Find our products either on our website or in store at retailers such as Argos, Currys, Robert Dyas or Lakeland. You may also spot us on QVC or Ideal world [sic] from time-to-time or on Amazon. Always buy from a trusted source to make sure you receive genuine Thane products.

So it seems that Thane supplied products to be sold from IW directly or had teleshopping type of slots on the channel. Usually stuff that is shown overnight because that is how I remember Thane products being sold a few years back and not just on IW but a multitude of channels with the informercials.

Doesn't make much sense for them to be issuing a winding up order against Ideal World if it's to do with infomercials.

With Infomercials the channel is the supplier (of airtime) and they bill a vendor for that time - unless Thane paid in advance for services which were not rendered. Ideal World did sometimes do this in fairness, in a way at least, with cruises - the big clue being the fact the customers were pointed to a different phone number - but I'm much less sure that QVC ever did.

More likely Thane were a supplier of goods to Ideal World who then failed to pay for those goods. Possibly the goods were dispatched directly from Thane who then billed Ideal World for them (drop shipping).

Im presuming as well that those who watch TV shopping channels aren’t really in the higher socio-economic groups, and are probably those for whom the cost of living crisis has hit worst so will inevitably be spending less and making fewer impulse purchases, which won’t have helped.

Thane sold their H20 E3 cleaning system via Ideal World, and has previously sold it via QVC. They have just started selling it again via TJC.

Rebecca (Bex) Edwards is a Thane brand ambassador, so is the one demonstrating the unit at QVC, TJC, and Ideal World. She worked at Ideal World for 15 years, before rejoining as a freelance guest presenter / demonstrator.
