Not a fan of this new look.  It’s similar to the current graphics, but worse.  

That double tab looks terrible.  What I mean is the “CNN THIS MORNING” next to the “BREAKING NEWS.”  Those are tabs.  

Under the current look there is only a single tab.  The show name is under the CNN bug.

It’s not clear to me from those screenshots if that is any easier or harder to read (or about the same).  But I fear it will be harder. Certainly doesn’t look easier.

I hope CNN remembers to close a few tabs once in a while.

Hah!  Also looks like sometimes the banner expands and also has a THIRD tab pop up as part of a promo.  Not in the pics shared here but was in the presentation…

The big question for me is how this will look on CNN International? Does the logo stay in the red box or does it take over completely Domestic look?

My favourite era of CNN graphics was around the early 2010s, as seen here...



I know that it has the potential to look slightly 'of its time' by today's standards - some of the glossy effects are perhaps not currently in vogue, with most design trends moving towards a simpler, flatter look over recent years, but I really do think it looks smart.

This screenshot must be from after Zucker took over but before the switch to the current look. Replacing the flipper with the scrolling ticker is one of the first things he did.

And it was more than just a cosmetic change. He put in place an entire team to do it (at domestic only).

Ticker process at CNNI has always been different (as are many things). I think CNNI held on to a flipper for quite a few years later before finally switching to a scrolling ticker during the pandemic.

(for domestic only.... CNNI has to handle their own.... just like many other things).

Edited to add: this was also the first graphics look after the change to full HD… I believe this launched January 2011.

The look before that was designed with the 4:3 aspect ratio in mind.

Of course, it took longer for CNNI to go 16:9.

I do like how CNNi has recently gone back to a ticker (guess they found out you can display a lot more information on it) and now both it, presumably, and Domestic are going back to a flipper!

I find that a ticker can be distracting at first but if it's to display the little information that the old CNNi flipper used to give, I'd rather keep a ticker.

I love a well curated ticker, but modern multiplatform delivery makes it very unworkable.

Extremely hard to keep a non jittery ticker on devices as wide as TVs; set top box/devices; browsers; mobiles. All with different apps and stream parameters

I'm not a big fan of tickers and flippers , myself, I like that MSNBC and FOX News Channel dropped theirs. CNN did use to drop their flipper during primetime programming, before Zucker came in and made things a ticker again. Also CNN I used to only use their flipper during US simulcasts and taped shows, whilst the CNNI shows didn't have anything at all, except during breaking news. I think it's cleaner look without one.
