RE: CNN - JK08 - 24-08-2023

I think this is very much the logical way to get CNN into streaming, rather than the ridiculous CNN+ concept that was essentially an elaborate demonstration of how to pour money down a drain.

RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 24-08-2023

It's coming on the 27th September with Jim Acosta, Rahel Solomon, Amara Walker, Fredricka Whitfield and Jim Sciutto getting new assignments for the exclusive CNN Max content.

The way they are treating this reminds me a lot of the failed CNN Pipeline initiative, which offered a curated feed of CNNI and exclusive and “experimental” breakaway programming, including CNN Newsource and raw video feeds. It was so pioneering, that it failed after two years, and much of the video content became freely accessible and ad-supported by the end of 2007.

A few things to read between the lines here:

All of the weekend anchors look to be getting new assignments. Either we’ll only see Acosta/Walker/Whitfield 3 days a week or we could see a fresh new set of weekend faces by the end of the year. Edit: The WBD Press Release makes it sound like Acosta, Solomon, Walker, and Whitfield anchor one show with Sciutto anchoring a separate show, which supports the rationale for a rotating roster.

Sciutto being tapped to lead breaking news in the afternoon looks like a sign that he’s being pulled from the News Central team.

Curious to see how the 4 hours of exclusive content and simulcast hours intertwine. Surely CNN Max will feature some of the Breakfast and Primetime shows live.

Glad to see them use the full power of the CNN name, was half expecting them to launch under “Headline News” to avoid immediate polarization. All in all, a sensible set of moves. And more new graphics to look out for!

RE: CNN - mouseboy33 - 24-08-2023

I have so many thoughts about this...
Firstly it makes me want to scream...DO YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING ANYMORE?!" I get the rational around cancelling CNN+, and launching CNNMax. This is what they should have done from the beginning. Really guys come on?! Rant over.

Now im really interested to see what this looks like. Watching for the presentation will be interesting. Hope its not just a clone of the current CNN look with just a CNN Max logo. (But something tells me thats whats going to happen. If its different than the mothership graphics, i still think it will be some combination of their signature colours.)

I get a feeling that the live programming will be in DTLs. As they will be coming DC and Atlanta. So likely it will be produced on the cheap. All presenters/anchors will have similar "newsroom-esque" backgrounds or something generic like screens. But...... DOMESTIC WEEKDAY NEWS STUDIO PROGRAMMING FROM ATLANTA YA'LL! Can you imagine? LOL.

My biggest gripe or....shock. Is this simply going to be locked behind the MAX paywall? Because not everyone wants to buy another streaming service. Like all the other streaming news channels, this should be available to the free streaming world. Right now there is a CNNreplay channel on some FAST streaming services. Its a story jukebox type channel. They could retain the "replay" aspect and not eat into their live programming, but add in the "exclusive" new CNN Newsroom blocks and rebrand the free CNNreplay.

I know its stupid...i think they should have used the CNN Headline News brand for the new live newsblocks. It would have been cool to get a modernized version of the famous brand. Wonder what a 2023 version of the famous Headline News theme and reusing the memorable outro line " Around the world in 30 minutes this is CNN Headline News!" One can dream. Such a wasted brand.

Interesting. One of the articles I read said it will mostly simulcast CNNI cause they can't show domestic shows since they are payed by cable companies and can't be streamed just like that.

Does this mean CNNI will get some attention from the head ups, finally? Plus, is this even good news or should we be afraid.... Maybe finally CNNI, can do more of its own coverage, if it's supposed to separate itself from domestic and focus on Max audience.

CNN Max will additionally feature “Amanpour,” “Anderson Cooper 360,” “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” and other anchors, correspondents, and contributors.

The Lead is starting an hour early today. I believe it was due to start like at 3pm ET as scheduled today. Jake Tapper is in Studio D with the indictment branding, he has came back from a pre-scheduled holiday to host today.

It’s the second time this Summer that Jake has had to break a holiday to host a Trump arraignment/arrest.

I think this seems unlikely as they only just launched 'CNN Fast' on certain connected TVs and mobile devices across Europe in May this year. It's exactly the jukebox-type channel you mention.
