They also have had a weird one, a Graham Norton/Daybreak green & purple one, and I don't know if you count it but the funny shaped chairs that made up a sofa type shape.

EDIT: Billy asko beat me to it!

Would there be enough room in SQ2 for that?

Not to the same size but I’d imagine they would want a similar look to the 6 and 10?

I get this is part of a box ticking exercise, but I can't understand why anyone would think it would be a good thing to move the NAO from one of the best equipped news studios in the world into a space that's crammed into the corner of an office.

The new Breakfast/Sport studio would work well with the sofa swapped out for a desk, but I can't help but think some of the other regional/national studios would be far better if they wanted to relocate the programme. Belfast and Cardiff both have nice new sets (with desks) but if they wanted it to remain in England, it would make sense to put a set more like Studio B's into somewhere like Newcastle where it would fit perfectly.

This would result in the News at One being in a studio far better suited to it than any in Salford and it also means the BBC could proudly say that one of their flagship news bulletins comes from somewhere outside of London/Salford.

I'd be very sure the 1 isn't going into SQ2.

It's an interesting thought about using a regional space. Newcastle is possibly the only regional site left in a traditional studio however there is a whole background infrastructure that regions just don't have.
Salford has that infrastructure in place so is the most cost effective out of London site to move to

RE: BBC News Reforms - Steve in Pudsey - 30-11-2023

Southampton still have a proper studio. I'm not sure about the infrastructure point these days, wouldn't it be more likely that a theoretical programme from Newcastle would be using facilities from NBH, much like the Singapore studio does/did on the News Channel?

With Newsnight I can't help feeling that they wanted to axe it, but felt there would be too much of a (political) backlash.  Instead by shortening it and changing the programmes format they're able to reduce it's importance amongst viewers and politicians.  Then in a year's time they can quietly axe it completely, potentially spinning it as being merged into an 'extended and enhanced' Ten news bulletin.  Think of it is the equivalent of when they moved TOTP from BBC One to Two, before then axing it.

A late night edition of "Sixty Minutes" and we know how long that lasted.

RE: BBC News Reforms - steve - 30-11-2023

I mean, it’s going to be coming from the Breakfast/Sport studio. I’m not sure why there’s any thought it won’t be.

It’s just had major investment, has all the elements of the other bulletins, and undoubtedly they want ‘daytime’ to have a different feel.

Sport will use a second set if they need to do a bulletin, but if the One doesn’t come from the Breakfast studio and look and feel very similar to Breakfast, I’ll eat my non-existent metaphorical hat.
