RE: Countdown - Steve in Pudsey - 25-08-2023

The way they are categorised on the Virgin EPG the best of episodes are "specials". We have only seen ep 1 and 10 of Series 24, so there are presumably 8 in the can.

Whereas All 4 / Channel 4 has Series 24 Episode 2 as the one shown a few weeks ago. S24 Ep 1 was in January and the 2 since have been “Best Bits 3/4”

Looking beyond that, we had a new episode for Christmas 2022.. so only 3 in the last 12 months.

RE: Countdown - Brekkie - 26-08-2023

Is odd if they still have unaired episodes and they're opting to show compilations instead, though it is nice to see Sean Lock at his prime two years on.

My understanding is there is one more Anne Marie episode and possibly even a Sean Lock episode that hasn't been screened. You'd imagine the current recordings are for the New Year but they seem much further behind than that, squeezed out somewhat by an ever expanding Gogglebox. They should move it to Thursday really and air it before each series of Taskmaster, establishing the slot for comedy entertainment for most of the year rather than switching to factual when Taskmaster isn't on.

This is a very good point and something Channel 4 are particularly poor at. Same with the Bake Off slot.

RE: Countdown - Brekkie - 26-08-2023

Well they've moved the Professionals series to Tuesday this year but the Celeb episodes went the other way to Sundays.

This is the issue though with C4 especially - you used to know roughly what type of programmes you'd get in each slot but that's no longer the case really, especially at 10pm. The few comedies they do do can turn up on any night.

Countdown though has at least settled now at 2.10pm - whether it's improved ratings would be strong enough for it to try and take on more competitive shows later in the afternoon I'm not sure.

RE: Countdown - nwtv2003 - 26-08-2023

Ratings are harder to access than they used to be, but Thinkbox/BARB shows Countdown rated between 400-500k w/e 11 August, if you include catch up and the likes. Given 2:10pm is hardly prime time, I’d say it’s pretty decent in the circumstances.

Jeff is also very clearly Rachel’s favourite host of the 4 permanent hosts she’s worked with.

To be fair, he's the one she started with.

How does that compare to Lingo, Tipping Point, The Chase, and Pointless?

RE: Countdown - Brekkie - 27-08-2023

The top episode of The Chase that week is 2.7m and Tipping Point is 1.7m. Thinkbox only report BBC shows in the overall top 50, which doesn't feature regular Pointless but the Celeb version sneaks in at number 50 with 1.7m viewers. Lingo is less than a million viewers.

So despite the improved ratings it is over 1m behind Tipping Point.

RE: Countdown - Jon - 27-08-2023

I guess that bit of boost post post-Anne Robinson has flattened out?
