On the occasional time, weather comes from Points West in Bristol. Especially during summer periods and over the August Bank Holiday each year. I noticed him on screen last week. Alexis did Weather from Southampton for the three regions including South West on BH Monday and Ian did the weather for the three regions on Tuesday.

Well this tweet confirms the switch to the temp set from Sunday.

Sounds like they are also getting the sofa version of the set not the rumoured desk version.

Well there is the matter of a sofa and a few other bits needing to go out of one door and into another. Plus a fair bit of testing and calibration to do too.

I would also say that people shouldn't automatically jump to the expectation that because Southampton has a big studio, is already HD and has had the gallery upgrades, that the change of set will only take three or four weeks. It may be a while until you see Studio A back in action - installing, lighting and testing a set is one thing. Programming afresh into the new gallery set up is quite another... especially when you're the first region to have both. Therefore, you'll be seeing Studio B for quite a few weeks.

The main bulletin has been entirely sofa based for years now - don't think a desk based version was ever on the cards. Therefore, makes sense to have gone down the sofa route as only the short bulletins continued to use the desk.

RE: BBC/ITV South News - IanJRedman - 08-09-2023

Has the temp set (as initially seen several weeks ago, while Studio A was having work done for a few days) been sitting in Studio B for all this time? I assume it must have been, as I don't think any other region has decamped in the interim.

I'm sure the 'Weather Hub' they could use is Plymouth, which is most definately broadcasting in HD. I'm not sure why they don't use one of the presenters from there.

Plymouth have had a specific CSO weather studio for that purpose for many years.

It seems that South Today are getting the downgrade to 'sofa news' from next week. Confused

Yes - it has been kept standing and in situ in Studio B since the maintenance work a couple of months ago.

So could or would that be the reason the new set rollout project has kind of stuttered to a perceptible halt. They needed South Today to get going added to whatever is still going on with South East Today.

The delays at South East haven't really delayed anything too much. BBC South was always originally scheduled for a late August... so a couple of weeks behind.

Don't know much about what is going on at Tunbridge Wells but the leak will have set things back there.

I'm still praying that IKEA run out of parts long before a "wizzy new set" is destined for Plymouth.  Cool
