Because he was awful.
Sky always had great world news coverage, especially with breaking news. Getting Yalda on board makes perfect sense.

You can't 'beat' the others, so do something different. And commercially makes sense - chase the audience your advertisers want to speak to, not numbers.

Time for something new and different at 10. It might be good if NBC News Now showed it too. I expect Yalda will also present and report on location, for both Sky and NBC.

I don't think they'll mess with Sky News at Ten, especially with the BBC vulnerable now with the future of Huw Edwards uncertain. I've always said in terms of the ITN bulletin that it doesn't matter what they do really - it's when the BBC bulletin became less stable they could capitalise on it, and the same applies to the Sky equivalent too. They also push the hour with the 10.30 press preview too now the BBC have axed The Papers.
I always felt though Sky should have made more of the 9pm hour - in the Live at 5 days I thought accompanying that with a "Live at 9" (perhaps with the same host) as their two flagship evening bulletins would have made sense.

Back in the day, the 9.30pm slot was used for non-rolling news programmes like Target and John Stapleton's show.

The special program on Myanmar a week ago was great. Really the sort of thing you'd expect from CNNi in the past. Though as you've said, Sky have long had stellar international coverage -- and not only focusing on the usual geographical focal points.

What's the reason for Sky News not being widely available on every platform in HD? You'd think to capitalise on the changes to the BBC News Channel, Sky News would want their channel to be available in the best possible quality to as many viewers as possible on every digital platform.
High Definition is seen as standard now, not a luxury paid for add-on.
It's the only news channel on my Virgin and Freesat EPGs that is still only available in SD (unless I upgraded my package on Virgin, which I'm not going to do to just watch one news channel in HD)
