I’d stick Yalda on at 10. Take on the big boys.

Because he was awful.
Sky always had great world news coverage, especially with breaking news. Getting Yalda on board makes perfect sense.

Me too - make it a genuinely international-focused agenda (like the BBC 9 once had) and a point of difference. You can't 'beat' the others, so do something different. And commercially makes sense - chase the audience your advertisers want to speak to, not numbers.

Bolstering their world news line up is completely the right thing given the ‘competition’ from GB News. Wouldn’t be surprised if Yalda was number 1 on their list for the aborted Sky / NBC channel.
Hopefully this is just the start. Sky News has been stale for years so these changes are very welcome. I actually think Sky News will evolve more into what the SkyNBC channel was intended to be. I know BBC News is unpopular here since that was changed but it seems to be the direction of travel.

Rubin was an atrocious presenter, though. There was nothing wrong with the content.

Sky News at Ten was only introduced originally because ITN vacated that slot (in '99 and again in 2017). Time for something new and different at 10. It might be good if NBC News Now showed it too. I expect Yalda will also present and report on location, for both Sky and NBC.

I don't think they'll mess with Sky News at Ten, especially with the BBC vulnerable now with the future of Huw Edwards uncertain. I've always said in terms of the ITN bulletin that it doesn't matter what they do really - it's when the BBC bulletin became less stable they could capitalise on it, and the same applies to the Sky equivalent too. They also push the hour with the 10.30 press preview too now the BBC have axed The Papers.
I always felt though Sky should have made more of the 9pm hour - in the Live at 5 days I thought accompanying that with a "Live at 9" (perhaps with the same host) as their two flagship evening bulletins would have made sense.

Back in the day, the 9.30pm slot was used for non-rolling news programmes like Target and John Stapleton's show.

That’s a very good shout actually.

If anything I’d say that makes it more likely.

The special program on Myanmar a week ago was great. Really the sort of thing you'd expect from CNNi in the past. Though as you've said, Sky have long had stellar international coverage -- and not only focusing on the usual geographical focal points.

Here is a good article about the behind scene management moves at SkyNews and the hiring of Yalda

Hopefully David Rhodes can breathe some life into the channel.

What's the reason for Sky News not being widely available on every platform in HD? You'd think to capitalise on the changes to the BBC News Channel, Sky News would want their channel to be available in the best possible quality to as many viewers as possible on every digital platform.
High Definition is seen as standard now, not a luxury paid for add-on.
It's the only news channel on my Virgin and Freesat EPGs that is still only available in SD (unless I upgraded my package on Virgin, which I'm not going to do to just watch one news channel in HD)
