Seems a bit unusual that there aren't any captions on that episode at all, the other master copies I've seen up on Screenocean do.

[EDIT: Oops. Wrong thread, how’d I manage that?]

Still in Christmas mode on January 4th! Seem weird now.

Think they generally left them up till the 6th if that was the Friday or weekend. Possible if it was earlier in the week they removed them.

Still baffles me a bit they bought back the Christmas graphics, especially without updating the logo (though they did the following year). In 1997 and 98 they used their regular bumpers of the time (a reworking of the early ones) with added snowflake effects and Christmas music. The titles survive this time - I think the following year the original Christmas titles were used, with the Artful Dodger titles only used on The Bigger Breakfast. Indeed surprising they never put a few Christmas things in the fly in considering they did versions in 1998 for the World Cup and at least one year for the Oscars.

Was also the final series of The Bigger Breakfast, as T4 took over school holidays from the start of 2001.

A very bizarre set of titles as well.

Very much a Johnny Vaughan based title set.

I wonder if back in 1998 when C4 were looking at launching a weekend strand (Saturdays only originally) whether there was any consideration of running The Bigger Breakfast at weekends all year round.

According to TVZone it looks like The Big Breakfast has been shelved

Hardly an exclusive - they know nothing more than we do which is the obvious - if it was coming back it would have been mentioned last week.

Although doing a series of just 4 episodes comes across as doing it on the cheap I imagine it's actually far more expensive per hour than if they were doing it full time. I suspect the production team last year were working all week, and in the weeks beforehand, for that one show a week, when for probably not much more you could get the show in it's rightful place airing 5 days a week costing significantly less per hour. The big hurdle as always would be the house itself - a long term lease of a holiday rental wouldn't have been viable but it's not a hurdle that couldn't be overcome.

Thanks for the link. I haven't heard of that site before. It looks like a great resource. It feels bizarre to see things in such good quality, especially the really early eps. I haven't seen them since back when they were aired on TV, except for some bad quality VHS recordings in YT clips.
I clicked through a few different episodes of The Big Breakfast, and some of those had clean endings too, like this one: https://licensing.screenocean.com/record/611235

I found this one quite interesting also, as it features a little bit of setting up before the opening titles roll and the show goes live: https://licensing.screenocean.com/record/612138
Please pardon my ignorance (loved TV production since I was a kid, but haven't taken part in TV pres communities before recently, so I'm still discovering how things actually worked!), but what exactly is the source for these videos? Straight from the master archives, I'm guessing? For some reason I didn't expect the bits that aren't being broadcast for the public to see to be kept. I thought it would just be archived as-aired. I'm assuming that these are copies of exactly was coming out of the show's production suite and being sent live to Channel 4 to jump in/out during broadcast?

It's fascinating seeing this kinda thing. 🙂

Screenocean is Channel 4's archive service.
