Indeed it does - one thing that irks me is that you used to hear the full recording (by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra - the original Jean Michel Jarre version is a bit different) in the stadium beforehand but now they use a shorter version with bits randomly chopped out.

I should add though, the break sting no long really sounds right - the music starts slightly before it used to and, because the sting is the same length as before, cuts off a bit abruptly instead of fading out.

Answer is both are showing it which according to this is a UK first.

So that ends the UEFA Champions League group stage format after after 32 years. And tonight was a good reminder of how that format works so well*. Onwards for progress and profit with the Swiss League format!

*not if you're a Newcastle fan maybe

To round up some other sports media headlines...

The Six Nations have extended their sponsorship partenrship with Guinness, and the Women's Six Nations will also now be known as the Guinness Women's Six Nations from 2024. The W6N branding looks to be the same as it was (heavily purple) but with the Guinness logo awkardly positonned on top.

This also means that there should be no rush to change the men's Six Nations graphics; I'm quite confident they will stagger on for another year until the end of the current rights cycle but a new World Cup cycle is a perfectly good time to finally update them if they want.

France 2 was the opposite, using the standard France TV Sport theme but the official graphics. One would imagine ITV will replicate RTÉ if last year is anything to go by (but which ITV Sport graphics will be used is almost a lottery).
S4C was all in on the official packages, which meant you had new side-by-side with the old stuff when rounding up the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup results together. No English commentary for either match on S4C, despite no other UK broadcaster showing Dragons v. Oyannax.

ITV did use their own graphics for the pre-match and post-match coverage, with the official intro used. Their own graphics being the light turquoise graphics used during the RWC 2023 rather than dark turquoise graphics that seemed to be approaching universality for ITV Sport last year when their football, rugby and NFL coverage used them.

Netflix's first foray into live sport a few weeks ago must have been a success as they have announced another live sporting event. In March they will show an exhibition tennis match between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas. A noon local / 9pm CET start time is rather notable.

Did anyone watching any of the Sky channels, saw the first teaser for Sky Sports' coverage of the ATP and WTA tour tennis? Consist of tennis balls making up the logo for 'Sky Sports' with "First serve soon" written underneath on the tennis surface (using the font that they last used for the US Open).

Saw it on Sky Max while watching "Dynamo is Dead".

New titles for the PDC darts on Sky Sports and a new overwhelming black with blue, purple and luminescent green elements colour scheme for the graphics - though I think the templates haven’t actually changed other than in colour.

Ian Wright will be stepping down from Match of the Day at the end of the season.

There was a period when whatever channel you watched football on Ian Wright seemed to be a pundit.

Presumably he'll continue elsewhere, noteably on ITV, but it is a loss to lose a character from a role that can be filled by people with very little personality.

He used to annoy the hell out of me but now I think even putting aside football tribalism he's arguably heading towards national treasure status.

I never really liked Wright as a pundit. I thought he was too histrionic but he was with the BBC for 27 years so what do I know. I wonder who will replace him next year?

On a different note did anyone else see how Optus covered the aftermath of Tom Lockyer's collapse during the Luton-Bournemouth game? I found it to be rather eerie.

I wish Tom all the best.

I probably moaned about it when the fixtures was announced, but I cannot fathom how or why ITV's Champions Cup picks are Sale at home, Exeter at home, Exter at home and finally Sale at home.

Not sure how that pleases anyone. It's not like they have picked the two biggest teams in the land either (like Amazon in Germany who have selected Dortmund or Bayern every possible occasion in their UCL coverage).

ITV's next match from the Gallagher Premiership will be Harlequins v. Gloucester from Twickenham on Saturday December 30th. With this being a 17:30 kick-off, it is understandable though disappointing this is on ITV 4 rather than the main channel.

It is the final day of GCN+ today.
