Was due to end at 4 30. Interesting they've been cycling (ba-dum-tss) through the co-commentators this time with Sarah Storey and Chris Hoy taking turns on co-commentary rather than just Chris Boardman. Chris Hoy has been sharing interview duties with Clare too.

Looks like coverage drifts away a bit once the track cycling ends tomorrow. There are slots at the weekend for things like the time trial and BMX but would have been good to keep evening highlights on BBC3, especially for the less familiar sports of Cycle-ball and Artistic Cycling.

Makes sense to test others apart from Chris Boardman, as with his other commitments he can appear less often than he has in the past, and - despite still being a great co-commentator IMO - he has been retired for 20+ years. Chris missed the entirety of the Tour de France this year, with recently retired pros such as Marcel Kittel and (the pregnant rather than retired) Ellen van Dijk the second pundit with Gary Imlach and Pete Kennaugh on ITV 4. Speaking of the ITV cycling coverage, it was great to hear Ned Boulting deputise on the BBC coverage of the men's road race, he's a really good listen.

I am slightly surprised that Clare and Chris have been hosting from the mixed zone rather than the stands like they often have done. But Jill Douglas hasn't been available on Saturdays due to hosting Amazon's rugby coverage and will presumably be taking it easy a bit ahead of being in France for a month+ for ITV for the Rugby World Cup, so it makes sense to combine the presenter and interviewer roles.

This weekend was the most watched EFL Championship opening weekend ever, with viewership up 77% on last season. Or 631 000 total, which would be awful figures for one of those matches on FTA or even for a pay PL game.

Soccer Saturday up 50% of the opening weekend of last season - that will be the Simon Thomas curiosity factor presumably. It will be interesting to check back in a month or so to see how the ratings hold up.

No mention of the ITV highlights and its new format. I haven't got to the end of it yet via ITV X, but I'm not really missing the removed pundits, and find it better that it is hosted on location.

So they've basically gone back to the format the Championship had back in the 90s. I think with up to 36 matches to cover people want highlights rather than punditry.

BBC One went off air before the medal ceremony, leaving the road race not long after 2nd, 3rd and 4th crossed the line, then had a brief round-up with Clare and Dame Sarah Storey, showed the run of the British winner of the downhill mountain biking and he had a short interview with Clare who then signed off.  Coverage on BBC One ended at around 16:55 - I'm not sure how much later than planned that was.

All they lost was a 25- minute episode of Escape to the Country, with Ghostbusters going out as scheduled. There was a quick plug for the Netball World Cup Final. Coverage was scheduled to continue on the red button from 16:50.

Just to add to this some of the classic matches will be on Sky Sports Mix but none of the live coverage (schedules available to Thursday so far). Main Event joins the tennis qualifying after The Hundred coverage each night.
The exhibition event for Ukraine on Wednesday night will be shown live also on Arena/US Open channel and Main Event.

Wonder if the archive matches will have the original Sky Sports commentary for those they aired between 1991 and 2015, presume the matches outside that will have either US broadcaster comms or the world feed. They are going back to the 1970s for some.

Seems like Max is looking into a new sports tier starting in the MLB Playoffs, under the name of Bleacher Report, and possibly simulcasting on Max and TBS without exclusives:

But some claim to be involved in the project said it'll be more towards an add-on service, spanning across different streaming platforms aside from Max:

Jeff Stelling to co-host TalkSport breakfast on Mondays and Tuesday from December, alongside Ally McCoist.

It's certainly common to rotate between Sky and Test Match Special and possibly also the broadcasters for the other side's country.

In answer to my own question and your response, Jimmy Anderson has been on a few matches on Sky Sports for The Hundred and is on the BBC today.

This one’s a very odd pick up - GAAGO has acquired the rights (ROI and NI) to three Pittsburgh Steelers pre-season games, and will be streaming them for free. As you do. Presumably some part of the “International Home Marketing Areas” initiative the NFL is running and I imagine the rights came very cheaply.

The World Feed titles complete with Eurovision fanfare for the World Cycling Championships have made the odd appearance on the red button - very similar to the Glasgoe 2014 World Feed titles and quite upbeat. The BBC title sequence is one of the most depressing I've ever seen for a sporting event.
