Formula One

This weekend is the first weekend in which David Croft is absent from Sky's commentary box, with Harry Benjamin in his place. He will be alongside Karun Chandhok on the race on Sunday. Interesting to see they had commentary practice together earlier in the week, not something I often have heard about with new commentators/commentary pairings.

With Benjamin absent, this means a return for former BBC TV, Channel 4 and Eurosport F1 commentator Ben Edwards to the Radio 5 Live commentary box for the weekend.

A couple of new things happened on Channel 4's highlights programme for the Qualifying sessions of the Canadian GP.

Ariana Bravo hosted the show from the F1 Arcade in London with Billy Monger. I think that is the 1st time that she has hosted a full F1 highlights programme.

There are also new pink & green mic muffs for Channel 4 F1 shown on screen for the 1st time today.

Over on Sky, this weekend they have a guest pundit in 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve. He certainly made quite the viral impact...

That's spurred Ricciardo to achieve his best qualifying of the year, so it served its purpose I guess.
I wouldn't mind Sky having a few more guest pundits throughout the year. Though the options are probably quite limited in reality due to how few people get to compete in F1, it would be nice to see new faces to add something to the team (in a similar way it's good that Harry Benjamin is subbing in on commentary a few times this year.)

Steve Jones seems to have more time off than Lorraine Kelly nowadays.
