BBC Internationally

Here’s a bit of a random once, next month will see the launch of a BBC Primetime block on South Africa’s SABC3 on the back of a deal between SABC and BBC Studios.

It’s the first time I can recall of a BBC block on a publicly owned channel.

Nice find!

Slightly unfortunate presentation of the BBC Primetime logo on the SABC press release:

Looks like a predominantly orange colour palette, along with a simple but attractive logo lock-up animation:

That animation was plucked from a 60-second promo reel that can be found here:

I noticed the below trailer for Top Gear for BBC Primetime appear on facebook. They’re certainly on brand here:

BBC Studios Australia is removing their channels from Foxtel from the 31st of July - a new deal has been struck with Fetch TV to continue to supply channels to Fetch subscribers, and the BBC News Channel will be made free to view on BBC.com as well.

Feels like something that'll see a deal agreed closer to the time or in the subsequent months considering Foxtel reaches around 4.5m subscribers (including via streaming) compared to less than 1m for Fetch, although UKTV remains on the platform with things like the soaps and Midsoner Murders.

Think the more premium drama airs on BBC First, although many still have a second window on FTA which probably significantly devalues what Foxtel think it's worth.

For a bit more context: BBC First over on Fetch is to be replaced by a dedicated BBC Drama channel in the same agreement.

Agree with Brekkie - First convey more of a sense of premium content, instead of plainly stating the broadcast genre.

Seems BBC Drama will be more archive content so not sure where their more premium drama goes, although of course many of the more expensive BBC Dramas are co-funded by Netflix or Amazon in return for international rights.
