Hello. Long time lurker in the blue and purple places, and now here.
Thanks for the nice comments, appreciated.
We were trying to fix the issue with the translucent Astons (I quite liked the blue version of the clock over the radio promo) when the mixer froze. We weren’t really sure of our timings until we heard the Breakfast director towards the end of the opt, but I thought it best to ditch our weather to avoid crashing. Luckily I’d written and made the weather graphic for the shorter bulletins, so quickly pulled it over from next running order while we were on the clip. I could then read it quickly or extend it to pad it out.
Luckily we got away with it and as ever credit to the director quickly working out timings and concentrating on the output.
Steve

NWT were late in opting out during the 2230 bulletin, viewers got the intro to BBC London when it then crashed into a VT from Katie Barnfield.

Is there any reason why the 7:30 bulletin failed to appear? We got Look North from Leeds instead. (Including the noticeable point the picture on the network goes into SD). Is there another strike on today?

I’ve just scrolled back on iPlayer and the 6:55 bulletin was BBC London, the other 3 were all Look North Yorkshire

My recording of Breakfast from BBC One Yorkshire had BBC London at 6.55 as well.

It’s been confirmed there were no Breakfast bulletins in part because of industrial action.

I'd have thought if they were working to rule they wouldn't have been "covering" Look North in the first place.

Steve worked on the previous strike day so I assume he is not taking part in this industrial action, for whatever reason. (Whatever your view on the action we should respect his choice, if indeed it was a choice - only NUJ members are entitled to take part. Given that union membership is a protected characteristic, speculation may be unwise.)
Presumably somebody thought it was for the greater good for him to do the Newcastle 6.30 programme and sacrifice NWT's Breakfast opts. Logistically doing both wasn't practical.

I remember Steve did the all England (bar one region or two) regional news during Breakfast from the NWT cupboard during the last strike.
