Never much logic in BBC scheduling - I thought they'd go for Strictly at 6.30pm, Doctor Who at 7.40pm and Survivor at 8.40pm.
Will be interesting to see how it does considering the low ratings of recent series.

That is around the time RTD 1 aired (series 1 was at 19:00), so not much surprise that it's a 18:30 slot the production team would prefer. Although, RTD 1 was in the other half of the year and never aired alongside Strictly.
In the Capaldi era though, it did air at 8ish after Strictly. You can make an argument that contributed to falling ratings or not.

Apparently - haven't received my copy yet - Russell says in the new Doctor Who Magazine that the specials will air on BBC One and then appear on iPlayer immediately afterwards. This is slightly annoying, as it means it won't be possible to watch in UHD 'live'. It's the same approach they took with Jodie's last episode, presumably to prevent people skipping ahead...
I'm now genuinely considering waiting for the iPlayer drop before watching!

Yes, which Moffat was very against and made sure everyone knew it was not his idea. 6/7is is where the show belongs.

Another report from the new DWM is that four new cast members of the specials have been announced. This includes a notable 20th century historical figure who I am not quite sure how they will fit in with what we already know about the specials.

6.30pm is designed for a tea time family audience - BBC feel younger fans prefer it at this time slot and this is what the BBC are marketing towards. They probably also want to stay out of the way of The Voice on ITV1.

I don’t think anyone is trying to avoid a schedule clash with The Voice in 2023.

Indeed the 703rd showing of a Harry Potter film is likely to be more competition for it's audience.

The Mirror is reporting that a spin-off series starring Paul McGann's Eight Doctor could be in the works.

Surely even Doctor Who fans don't need that. Just because they can make it doesn't mean they should.
