I think this year, since Doctor Who has returned to Saturday nights, we will get the ident presentation for Christmas revealed before Strictly, as it would be perfect to unveil it during their two big Saturday night shows.

Urgh. To me, they’re not idents, they just look like clips from the animations.
I’m sure the BBC One logo will be superimposed on them. If they weren’t though, you really wouldn’t be able to tell they were idents.
Cute? Sure. But again, programme-specific and nothing at all related to the Lens concept. People just don’t know what are idents are or how they’re supposed to function any more.

I know what you mean, but they're pleasant enough. Nice soundtracks too.
Alongside the 2020 idents (Gruffalo's Child, Zog x2, plus the daytime and night-time news safe ones), there's quite a variety this Christmas.
Although it's not the first time that BBC One has recycled idents across consecutive Christmases, it certainly is the first ever occasion that they've brought ones back from 3 years ago.

I'm presuming that we'll just be getting the 2020 Christmas Tree ones from 2020. Just a guess, though, as the press release doesn't make specific mention of this

The Tabby McTat one is cute, even as a dog lover. The others are nice enough, but although I guess the generic tree ones from 2020 are being used alongside them these would work much better for a short run around the big day rather than from a month out.
I just don't think these animations are the centre piece of the schedules the idents make them out to be either - it's a bit different with Wallace and Gromit who you can truly say are British icons (similarly Doctor Who). That said even going with the logic they are the centre piece I think three based around the new animation would make most sense - the Tabby McTat one does feel most Christmassy. The other two being based around older animations make them feel like repeats even if they're new.
That said though putting the pres analysis to one side and just judging them for what they are they do raise a smile.
I'm assuming the Christmas schedules are due to be confirmed any day now?

Something I've just realised regarding the Stick Man one. This is the first time since 2000 that Santa has appeared in a BBC One Christmas ident!

The Christmas Day schedule itself is probably seen as the centrepiece. It may feature as the idents but like The Boy, Mole etc last year Tabby McTat will likely be hidden away on another day and being aimed at kids, it won't have mass appeal. I think you have to go back to the Only Fools and Horses trilogy in 1996 for a centrepiece, something that was head and shoulders above anything else in terms of people wanting to watch. There has been stuff like Mrs Brown's Boys, Gavin and Stacey that have performed well since but with an element of surprise of how well and I can't remember them being raved about beforehand to the extent that OFAH was.

See it wasn't guesswork, How I wish it was but the simple fact is the BBC xmas ident are predictable and bland. I will say this, I expect if another animation is announced next year for xmas that will also be the xmas idents
