That's a shame to see. You do wonder if the threats around the first serial are partly to blame for that, because there's not much else Doctor Who related not on iPlayer anymore.

"Lost media" is a bit of a stretch.

Is this a sign that RTE One or RTE 2 will be airing Doctor Who when it returns in May?

Does Ireland have BBC One? If not, I assume yes, but if they do it's kind of redundant. I know they can't access iPlayer, which is why adding it to RTE Player was necessary.

BBC One is available on Sky TV Ireland, Virgin Media Ireland cable TV, and on broadband TV services Eir and Vodafone - but that's not the point, if it is on RTE Player, RTE would be worth it to air it too, especially people who might just have Saorview and no access to BBC One - if they bought the streaming rights, why not use that money well and air it too
RTE One on Saturday nights are dreadful, so the addition of Doctor Who on Saturday nights would be nice

It depends what you mean by having BBC One .
It is on cable systems and on Sky and obviously FTA Satellite but there is no transmission on Saorview.
Only Sky News and Challenge are on Saorview

So it's not available to all. Yeah, would make sense for RTE One to start showing the programme then.

BBC One is available in roughly 90% of households in the Republic. The audience who want to watch Doctor Who as it goes out for the first time is fairly small (I doubt they'll switch over to RTE for a possible ad break in the middle!) it was the catch up viewers that were missing out. The RTE Player has had a fair amount of exclusive content on it in recent years which was never shown on RTE One or Two. However I don't know what their policy is now. They had CBS's The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for at least a year and I don't think that ever made it onto any of it's TV channels.
The audience for Doctor Who would generally be younger so it's possible they'll just keep it on the Player to try and drive traffic in that direction, but this is RTE we're talking about so who knows what they'll do.

I don’t think we’ll see it on a linear outlet. I’m surprised they bought the rights at all. RTE don’t believe the viewing public in Ireland has any interest in sci-fi, or if they do, it is being catered for adequately elsewhere.
Last time Doctor Who got a linear airing on Irish television was the first two revival series aired on TV3, long after they had already aired on the BBC. Before that you have to go back to a really haphazard run (episodes missed, entire stories skipped, even an episode of a different story being aired in the middle of another) of Jon Pertwee stories on TG4 in 1999.

As noted on here, even though a recoloured version of Doctor Who and the Silurians being available it on my ever aired in Black and White.
